I went Scorsese. Virtually all of his movies are good and he's still going strong today. He also makes it seems like filmmaking is effortless. I'm a big Kubrick fan and he's probably the most interesting filmmaker but that doesn't always make for the best movie.

By far the most significant figures you're missing is Yasujirô Ozu,

I've only seen Late Spring, Early Summer, and Tokyo Story, but I'm tempted to call him my favorite just based on those films.

Poll is also missing Orson Welles

Just noticed you're also missing Godard, Renoir and Truffaut. Bazin would not be happy with you, man.

I only had 15 options. So I thought I'd put the directors who would likely get the most votes on here. Do you think if I added those directors it would of affected the voting much?

I notice there is an obscene amount of love for these Asian directors here.

It's the same hype this website suffered from years ago. If they fight overseas in an Asian promotion the hype is unreal and they would come to the states and clean house.

Seen many of he films mentioned here. Their Americans director counterparts are light years ahead of them.

Is it just film cool hipster love for these guys because I've never been blown away by the films mentioned here.

They can't hold a candle to Scorsese, Kubrick, Spielberg, Cameron,

I also love John Hughes, Richard Linklater, so many good ones. For those that have never watched a Hitchcock film please do. Be patient, as they aren't Michael Bay explosion action films. But they are great... I suggest:
North by Northwest
Psycho
Vertigo
The Rope
The Birds
Topaz

Strangelove
2001: A Space Odyssey
A Clockwork Orange
Barry Lyndon
Shining
Full Metal Jacket

tough pick

Those are my top 3 as well, coincidentally in the same order you have them listed. Spielberg has such a large body of work and so many iconic movies, it's really hard not to have him at #1. Scorsese is my personal favorite and Kubrick is an absolute genius.

I am not as cinematically cultured as you guys, so I just went with the guy who's movies I've enjoyed the most.

Spielberg.

Decent actor too. Have you seen Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence?

I only heard of that shit when it hit Criterion tbh. Gotta see it. Shit has Bowie in it?

But with Kitano you can't fuck with Sonatine, Hana-bi, Violent Cop etc

The film made me realize Bowie can act and not just a musical icon. I've pretty much seen all of Beat Takeshi's films. I used to live in Japan and he's huge there.

Martin, Tarantino and Fincher from this list for me.

I do really like a lot of Camerons stuff too.
