This is one of the worst boxing threads I've seen in a while. Rocky Marciano as greatest boxer ever? this has got to be a joke.

1. Sugary Ray Robinson
2. Joe Louis
3. Muhammad Ali

FYI: George Foreman would absolutely maul Rocky Marciano.

im sticking with mayorga on this...

who else can smoke durring a weight in and still compete huh??

Sugar Ray Robinson. The total package. Speed, technique, power, stamina, defence. Besides, he fought about 3 million fights.

Its impossible to actually put down one fighter because its so subjective. You could argue the case all day for the likes of Ali, Ray Robinson, Jimmy Wilde, Archie Moore, Henry Armstrong etc etc etc.

Personally I think HW's seem to get a leg up simply because they are heavyweights and at most other times aside from now it has been the most prominant division in the sport. I dont see anyone touting Joe Calzaghe on account of his unbeaten record which he is likely to keep but Marciano makes the list mainly due to being the only unbeaten HW champ. Since weight doesnt factor here where are Ricardo Lopez, Sven Ottke and Floyd Mayweather ? If being unbeaten makes the grade then surely they are up there.

its dif not Marciano.

theres more than a few fighters from different era's i reckon would beat him.

great fighter tho and had the 0 but as the balve says cause hes an heavywieght it gets more respect and acclaim than other undefeated fighters

Seriouisly, Ali is always ranked too high on P4P lists. There were several better HWs, let alone P4P of every weight class.

Are you insane?

"Several better heavyweights" than Muhammed Ali?

Ali had 3 prime years stolen from his career but still managed to become "the greatest".

Ali fought the best oppostion out there, time and time again but still came out on top.

I'd love to hear about these several more accomplished and "better" heavyweights....

Rebecca Holloway.

Who was only 12 years old in 1975, I might add, and also only 14 when she had a certain somebody's child.

i can tell you two off of the bat, Rocky Marciano and Joe Louis.

Great fighter. Not the best of all time on the P4P or heavyweight lists.

In my opinon until someone can do what Marciano did at HW better then he did, he is still the best. Who at HW beats him? he beats Louis is in Prime, he beats down Ali, he beats Tyson and he smashes Lennox Lewis, Sonny Liston, Ken Norton, Floyd Patterson, Gene Tunney and Jack Dempsey.

Rocky Marciano was 49-0 with an KO rate just under 90% who else has done that at HW?

Why does HW factor ? There are more than a few champswho have had undefeated careers with just as many high profile wins. There are also HWs with losses who have have alot more prestigious wins on there record.

Who to and how you lost factors but the big question is who you beat and how. 99% of fighters will experience a loss so its to there credit if they come back like Lewis or slip into obscurity like Nas.

TAKE THAT!!!

This Is All A Matter Of Opinion.

How About Some Of The Old Timers?

Boxing Had Excellent Fighters Prior To Tv Coverage Etc.

Rocky Marciano has to be rated in the Top 10 Heavyweights of All-Time which is saying a helluva lot considering how many tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of Heavyweights there's been in the gloved era since Gentleman Jim beat John L. in 1892.

I still can't believe what I'm reading here over-and-over again that Marciano was the Greatest of All-Time though.

Was there a recent documentary somewhere or did some slickster do a Marciano love-piece in the Heavyweights maybe?

This is absurd.

The Boxing Forum is turning into the HWs.

Marciano is not the best HW of all time, not the best boxer that ever lived and certainly not in the top 5 p4p all time. No matter how many times you regurgitate his undefeated record or his KO % that isn't going to change.

Any list that starts without Sugar Ray Robinson #1 has zero validity in my eyes. Furthermore, people saying that there were several HWs better than Ali... well, I don't know how to even begin there. Louis is the only guy I can even make an argument for.

This thread is idiotic.

Would you consider someone like Lew Eskin's opinion invalid, Bobby, considering he wrote about boxing during the 40's and continued to do so right up until the 80's or 90's, I think?

Not only did Eskin not vote Robinson the best of all-time, but he didn't even think he was the best of his own generation, which Esking followed as it happened. He chose Ezzard Charles as the best during Robinson's time, and I certainly think that's a "valid" enough opinion considering, whether you, I or anybody else can agree with it or not.

i dont rate dempsey that highly either.

great for his day but would get beat against most other greats after him.

think this has been covered before hahaha
sorry bradlee
