It is very important for the failed leg lock attempt to actually be a sweep to the Francis Fans, because that way Frank won the fight by his owns skills and merit, not just Gane throwing it away on a tactical error. If Gane stays on top, he wins the round and the fight as the judges only cared about top control, and Francis Fans know this.
On thing I think is very important to note is the corner advice given to Gane before the final round: his trainer said told him that he was losing, thus making Gane feel like he needed a finish, unaware that he was tied and just needed the round. Knowing this, it makes sense that in the 5th he went for so many subs and kept on trying to finish and improve vs coast for points and lay n pray. Gane did not lose this fight, French Edmund did. Even if it was a legitimate sweep and Gane's leg lock played zero part, there was no reason to try and post for more leverage for ground and pound/passing in such a situation - French Edmund should have told him to hold on for dear life like Francis did when he got top.
