Grappling Is Boring...

Grappling is very broad and there are varied styles. There are very exciting grappling matchups, however there are also boring ones too
 
Grappling is boring because it isn't worth taking chances making sub attempts when judges will hand you a rd for being on top basically doing nothing. Going for attempts and failing usually ends up with you on your back losing a round

Uhm, ground wars are absolutely joyous to watch. All the way since the beginning of MMA. Newton vs. Saku, Azeredo vs. Buscape, Herring vs. Nog...

Go watch Kickboxing or Muay Thai? It's literally MMA without grappling you fool.
 
I dont agree in princible, because grappling can be very exciting, but I do agree that UFC grappling is often boring due to several factors. The main one is that all forms of "control" are valued too highly by the judges, which means that the top guy many times doesnt even bother trying to advance or gnp. The second, ironically enough, is the stand ups. You might think that stand ups would promote activity on the ground while in fact it does the opposite. Instead of grappling the top guy will look to throw pitter-patter punches to avoid the stand up, while the bottom guy will just hold on instead of escaping or threaten with submissions. If the guard was revamped to be a neutral position with significant GnP (from top/bottom) and dangerous sub attempts being scored the same, and stand ups removed, I think we'd see better action.

Dana usually keeps stand-up fighters, and dumps ground fighters.

That's because casual fans want to see knockouts.

The thing is: Grappling and wrestling is not boring as long as the fighter is using it to fight, not just to score points (which is always the safest choice).
Wrestling a-la Dan Severn (or as it Stern?) was pretty exciting, grappling that leads to submissions are always exciting as well.

But then there's Laflare, Davis, GSP, DC (not in his last fight 'cuz he knew he can't wrestle Jones) and a bunch of other fighters that are overly concerned about winning and underly concerned about fighting, those are the people who makes you want to gouge your eyes out.

For me, if the fighter is pushing the ground game to a finish (be it submission or GNP) it's awesome, otherwise is terrible, there's little in-between.

Paul Harris submissions were always fun to watch, too bad dude is either autist or psycho.

There wasnt really any grappling in the woodley maia fight except for the failed takedowns. Some fights just suck. High level grappling, to those who know what they're watching, is always a treat.

If your claim is that most fans don't get as excited about ground fights as stand up wars, then you're right.

Most fans don't understand the ground game so they cannot be excited because they don't know what is happening.

To me, it sounds like that's more a matter of the fan not being able to appreciate grappling than about grappling as such.

Two year olds also don't enjoy David Lynch movies. It doesn't mean they're not exciting.
