Grappling Is Boring...

The only time the fans enjoy grappling is when the fighter they want to win has dominant position.

The only time I don't mind grappling is when it is a WMMA fight, because women are not strong enough to just hold each other down. Women who know basic grappling skills often escape, and there are a lot of positional transitions and scrambles.

Don't get mad of me for this opinion. The majority of the mma community stated that Tyron Woodley vs Demian Maia was boring, despite a masterful performance by Tyron Woodley against the best grappler in UFC history.
Grappling is very broad and there are varied styles. There are very exciting grappling matchups, however there are also boring ones too

Grappling is boring because it isn't worth taking chances making sub attempts when judges will hand you a rd for being on top basically doing nothing. Going for attempts and failing usually ends up with you on your back losing a round

Exactly. Grappling is only fun with dominance. When there is no dominance, it is a snoozefest. Maia vs Masvidal was a snoozefest, but because Maia (the classy BJJ darling) had Masvidal's back and did ABSOLUTELY nothing, everybody was happy seeing him win. But when he was shut down by one armed Woodley, it was Woodley's fault.

That is the story of grappling. When the fighter that everybody loves has the advantage, everybody loves it, he doesn't, then it is just a snoozefest.

That has nothing to do with grappling
Don't blame grappling for all the BS excuses Maia's fans have said

Grappling is fun to watch. As long as you watch EBI!

*Watches MMA, doesn't like grappling*

Uhm, ground wars are absolutely joyous to watch. All the way since the beginning of MMA. Newton vs. Saku, Azeredo vs. Buscape, Herring vs. Nog...

Glory will always outsell EBI

Real fighting is more exciting than women's defense.

Plus all the booty shots and cameltoes <datassdom>

If you don't like grappling why do you watch MMA?

Go watch Kickboxing or Muay Thai? It's literally MMA without grappling you fool.

I dont agree in princible, because grappling can be very exciting, but I do agree that UFC grappling is often boring due to several factors. The main one is that all forms of "control" are valued too highly by the judges, which means that the top guy many times doesnt even bother trying to advance or gnp. The second, ironically enough, is the stand ups. You might think that stand ups would promote activity on the ground while in fact it does the opposite. Instead of grappling the top guy will look to throw pitter-patter punches to avoid the stand up, while the bottom guy will just hold on instead of escaping or threaten with submissions. If the guard was revamped to be a neutral position with significant GnP (from top/bottom) and dangerous sub attempts being scored the same, and stand ups removed, I think we'd see better action.

Dana usually keeps stand-up fighters, and dumps ground fighters.

That's because casual fans want to see knockouts.

I think ts is retarded. It's the only thing that makes sense

Name 5 ground wars that happened in the last 5 years in the UFC, that had the fighters standing on their feet and screaming for more.

I will wait.

Name 5 fights that had back and forth grappling, which was so exciting that the fans were up on their feet screaming.

The thing is: Grappling and wrestling is not boring as long as the fighter is using it to fight, not just to score points (which is always the safest choice).
Wrestling a-la Dan Severn (or as it Stern?) was pretty exciting, grappling that leads to submissions are always exciting as well.

But then there's Laflare, Davis, GSP, DC (not in his last fight 'cuz he knew he can't wrestle Jones) and a bunch of other fighters that are overly concerned about winning and underly concerned about fighting, those are the people who makes you want to gouge your eyes out.

For me, if the fighter is pushing the ground game to a finish (be it submission or GNP) it's awesome, otherwise is terrible, there's little in-between.

Paul Harris submissions were always fun to watch, too bad dude is either autist or psycho.

TS' number two tactic behind acting stupid is telling people what they think

There wasnt really any grappling in the woodley maia fight except for the failed takedowns. Some fights just suck. High level grappling, to those who know what they're watching, is always a treat.

If your claim is that most fans don't get as excited about ground fights as stand up wars, then you're right.

Most fans don't understand the ground game so they cannot be excited because they don't know what is happening.

To me, it sounds like that's more a matter of the fan not being able to appreciate grappling than about grappling as such.

Two year olds also don't enjoy David Lynch movies. It doesn't mean they're not exciting.
