Got my purple

hmm I've actually got a few questions..

What is one thing in your training process that really stood out as helping you learn efficiently? For example, was there a particular way of sparring, or drilling? Was it private lessons? Were there a lot of higher belts available to help mentor?

Is there a curriculum of any sort at your school?

recently i've become really interested in the training/learning process of BJJ (well, learning process in general). I guess I'm just curious about the way all the different schools out there teach and train. Being able to advance as fast as you did is great! I am very interested in how the process went

Like the title says I got my purple belt and well I am very happy about it of course. I kinda knew it was coming because my professor had hinted at it but now its true. I will try my best to represent it well but I kind of feel a bit nervous about it. At blue I was super happy but I felt a blue belt was "nothing" but now ppl expect a purple to kick ass and know alot. At the same time i am excited to continue training and improving.

For the usual questions ive been training around 3 years and 3-4 months total about 3 times a week. I watch instructionnal / matchs often like most ppl on here and I feel it helped me get better faster. It may be a bit fast I dont know, I will trust my professor and just do my best.

I think its natural to feel a little nervous, purple is a big jump. Your professor is the ultimate judge of your skill, and he knows your BJJ skill better than you know your BJJ skill. You're right to trust him.

Enjoy the promotion and help the newbies.

Man not long ago it seem I was the one asking those questions...its kind of what I meant in my original thread when ppl expect you to know things. Ill try to answer as best as I can just dont take those responses as absolute truth.

there isnt really a curriculum at my school but my professor always say that purple is one if not the most difficult belt to obtain and that when he got his he knew he would eventually make it to black. I am guessing I might have got my belt because I have a complete game with no big weaknesses. I think my strongest position is guard and my professor is more of a guard player so maybe that played a role too? just a guess.

About what helped me learning faster well, again its just an opinion but I am always working on what I feel is the weakest part of my game and im not afraid to "lose" in training because of it. Ill go right to this position and try the stuff i want to work on.

the thing I think my gym need to do more is drilling. I feel we dont drill nearly enough and thats mostly because ppl think its boring not because my professor think its not important.

as for Bjjaz question well my biggest accomplishment is getting this belt ;) but if you meant tournament, I try to go when I can but I am a father with 2 kids so I cant always go. I did get a few 2nd and 3rd place...latest one being 2nd place in the Bravado open.

Uchimata thanks man, I always try to help the newbies because I want them to stick around and become good trainign partner. I acutlaly enjoy teaching jiu-jitsu I even feel it help me learn more by breaking down techniques for them.

Solid brag dude ! I train pretty much the same time and i'm a white belt :icon_chee

congrats! The purple belt is a big step :D welcome to the advanced divisions.
