Marco Rubio tax plan takes aim at big business break

Sen. Marco Rubio is the first major 2016 presidential hopeful with a detailed tax plan, and the business community is not likely to be pleased.
The Florida Republican will formally release his plan with fellow conservative Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) on Wednesday and, in a somewhat rare move, will detail at least one big break that will be nixed to fund big cuts in individual and corporate tax rates.

On the chopping block is a widely used business deduction for interest paid on debt in exchange for eliminating taxes on capital gains and dividends and adding an immediate write off for business investments, according to details shared with POLITICO by the right-leaning Tax Foundation, which ran the numbers on the bill for the lawmakers.

Ben Carson launches exploratory committee

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson took his clearest step yet towards a presidential bid with the launch of an exploratory committee on Monday.

Terry Giles, Carson's campaign chief executive, told The Wall Street Journal that the potential candidate opened the committee, which will allow him to raise money that could eventually be transferred to an official presidential campaign.

Scott Walker Comes Out in Support of 20 Week Federal Abortion Ban
As he moves closer to an expected White House run, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has been veering in a more conservative direction regarding issues on which he once kept relatively mum, or held different positions. From his recent embrace of Right to Work legislation, to a change of heart on whether to give undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship, Walker now adds his full support of a 20-week abortion ban to a growing list of evolving positions.

On Tuesday, Walker sent a letter signaling his intent to sign a bill in to law that would ban abortion in Wisconsin after the 20-week mark of pregnancy, something that, during his 2014 re-election campaign, he refused to commit to either way.

So Walker was for pathway to citizenship a couple years ago and now isn't. Thought abortion was between a doctor and woman and now changed on that also. Won't answer if he believes in evolution and doesn't know if Obama is a Christian. His campaign should be "Vote for me. I'll say whatever you want me to say."

Big tax cuts for businesses! Genius! Because they will definitely pass those cuts down to the middle class! Oh wait...Sam Brownback already tried this in Kansas and has absolutely destroyed the state's economy in his one term+ as the state's governor. And it's only going to get worse for him. Just imagine this stupidity on a national scale.

Hillary Clinton: “We've heard Republicans try to sing out of the same hymnal, talking about income inequality – it's like watching the end of Casablanca”

Is there any history of Presidential hopefuls (who don't succeed in their bid) being punished by voters when they come up for re-election in their positions for their change of stance during the presidential race?

He should be docked for simply running...

"While Gov. Scott Walker lays out plans for a second term in Madison, he will not promise to serve the entire four years if the 2016 national elections beckon

I think you misread the article. His plan removes a big business tax deduction.

Germany has a rule in place that abortion needs to happen within the first 12 weeks. After that, only cases of rape and medically warranted abortions are allowed.

Usually the problem with legislation in the US is the right goes way to far in what they want passed and the left is very hesitant to give up any ground unless specific provisions are clearly included. If you look at polling, I think it is achievable to get first 12-20 weeks passed IF they had the condition of rape and medically warranted abortions. The problem is many of the bills do not present this IF and when they do, they end up being overly harsh on what you need to do to prove the rape. I think the issue could be handled far better in the US but it still remains as a key divide between the party and for that reason, it becomes much more partisan then it needs to be.

It then becomes a slippery slope issue that once the pro-choicers gave any on the issue that the pro-lifers would keep chipping away and wanting more and more. Hard 20 week limit (with health of mother, rape/incest provisions) and GOP/pro-lifers never again broach the issue with further restrictions and I think it would have pretty wide support. In reality how many third trimester/late term abortions happen that are not health of mother reasons? I'd imagine a very small fraction.

Jeb/Walker lead in GOP Sunshine State Poll

Bush still is leading but Walker is fell short by only 1 point. Rubio's stake in this race could be huge if part of his 11 points (very likely as it's the highest I've seen him show in any specific state) are because he is from Florida. It's highly likely some of those points would be for Bush if Rubio didn't run.

Florida President

Bush 23
Walker 22
Rubio 11
Huckabee 10
Carson 8
Christie 6
Paul 5
Cruz 2
Perry 1
Jindal 0
Santorum 0

lol at Trump for putting it out there that he "may" run. What a joke. This will NEVER EVER happen.

Trump is a huge joke. I don't know how anyone can take him seriously, let alone vote for him if he actually ran in the primary.

Yea, it's weird how little has been done on the issue when the polling shows there is a clearer consensus on where the line is to Americans. It's the extreme sides that keep it at a stand still hate-fueled tug-a-war like many issues in Washington.

I don't think he would even be invited to the debates. The field is far more qualified this time around. Maybe in 2012 he could've gotten away with it but his window has closed for any spotlight whatsoever. He said he is 80% sure he will run but I think he is just saying more so the media listens since they;ve heard this BS multiple times. He put a hold on renewing Celebrity Apprentice and is acting like that means he will run... too bad he did that in 2011 also.

He's a media whore and love when each primary cycle arrives.
