Good Movies that are like 2 completely different movies duct taped together but it works... sort of

I would say Godfather 2 beats all here. It really is 2 movies in 1 and was a masterpiece.

How this wasnt first film mentioned i got no idea

Hostel the first third was like a stoner comedy. My buddies and I were laughing so much. We still always say of course my horse to each other lol. Then our expressions changes to <30> For the rest of the film

Maybe more of a change of perspective,but....Fargo. Frances McDormand won an Oscar for Best Leading Actress, but didn't even appear in the film until halfway through. The entire first is told through the lens of William Macy. The second half is about Frances solving the crime.

Because both Young Vito and Mike's stories are both the same genre and they're expertly interwoven as a flashback vs "present"

Not quite the same as FMJ going bootcamp to Nam.

But it is the perfect example of question in the title. It literally 2 different distinct movies in one. <seedat>

How about Sleepers?

Goes from prison movie to courtroom drama with a little gangster thrown in.

I guess?

Then any good movie with extended good flashback sequences would qualify...

I dunno
Okay what are the other movies with like a full movie of flashback are there of great quality? GF2 isn't an extended flashback it's literally like another movie.

Fair. Let me wrack my brain a bit.

it fits.

It's a slight twist on the EXACT premise I asked for but close enough

AND

It made me think of Memento.

you have

A) the color version moving forward in time
B) the black and white version moving backwards

It's close enough.

I asked for a shift in perspective and "2 distinct films"
It satisfies that.

i get what you are saying because it is concurrent rather than consecutive like the examples I gave

But it is the perfect example of question in the title. It literally 2 different distinct movies in one. <seedat>

Yeah.

The GF flashback feels like you could plug it into a 3 act film structure.

act 1 he is a nobody
Act 2 he sees his opportunity
Act 3/climax he seizes the thrown

It's 90 min . It is its own movie. Clear humble beginnings, rise, and clear conclusion as the the msn

How long is the movie if the flashback side plot is 90 min?

I wonder if anyone has ever edited it into two distinct films?

Sort of like this:

(Pulp Fiction rearranged into chronological order)

From Dusk till Dawn is one of the best examples. I thought it was great up until shit hit the fan and then after a few minutes I just stopped watching.

*I suppose it doesn't qualify for me since I didn't think it was particularly good.

200 minutes. I know they have it where it's split into 2 I can't find it but I have seen it. There is already the saga edition where it goes 1 thru 3 in chron order.

The Deer Hunter

I know this is a beloved film but most ridiculous plot ever

(SPOILER but if you haven't seen a 50 year old film that's on you)
