Good fighters with poor records

Nate Diaz
Frank Shamrock (his is decent, not great)
Sakuraba
Penn
Carlos Newton
Chael Sonnen
Frank Mir
Chris Lytle
Nate Marquardt

Tried to list guys with losses in at least 30% of their fights or more. That looks sketchy on paper but in reality fighting at the top in MMA there's nowhere to hide - MMA isn't like boxing where guys can pad their records and get huge win streaks going.

This is a pretty comprehensive list. Matt Brown is also in the conversation. Sadly I have a feeling Shogun will be over time even though he has a win streak going on right now.

Y'all motherfuckers forgetting someone??

I feel like most fighters on here either fought too long and racked up a lot of loses late in their careers or added skills later into their careers.

Nick Diaz didnt have his great boxing until about halfway into his career. Matt Brown didnt learn submission defense until about when he joined the UFC

BigNog 34 - 10 but still a legend.
That's not a bad record at all, given that he lost to guys like Fedor x2, Barnett, Cain and Werdum.
In fact, all of his last 2 losses are nothing to be ashamed of (and he could blame those last two on age)

The word “ poor “ doesn’t apply to those guy
I would agree.
We're mostly listing high profile fighters with records that aren't perfect. But most of these records are too good to be "poor".

Would perhaps be more interesting to list guys who are decent fighters, but have shitty records possibly due to close losses or mishaps.

I dunno, like Keith Jardine
17-11-2
robbed against Bonnar,
ate an illegal knee from Alexander,
took a solid shot square to the back of the head (illegal) from W. Silva,
lost in the last 10 secs of his bout against Jackson.

I am thinking of

- Matt Brown (21-16)
- Tito Ortiz (18-12)
- Diego Sanchez (27-11)
- BJ Penn (16-12)
- Frank Mir (18-11)

Others?

Other than Brown, the rest of your list had excellent records. Until they continued fighting well past their prime and multiple losses added up quickly when they should of just retired.

The one fighter who's record doesn't show how great he was is Couture.

What meant was number of defeats and not opponent quality.

I'm giving a shutout to my boy Tim Means on this thread.

10-5 since his return to WW. If 2 of those split decision losses would have went the other way, he would be 12-3.

Another one of those losses he was piecing up Matt Brown until he came out of nowhere with a choke.

Has finishes over Homasi, Bobby Green, Lima, John Howard, Pfister, Spratt.

At around 30 he was proving he was starting to put it all together. Then the Matt Brown come back happened and set him back a bit.

Really hoping the dirty bird pulls himself out of his 2 split dec loss slump.
