Good fighters with poor records

Nate Diaz
Frank Shamrock (his is decent, not great)
Sakuraba
Penn
Carlos Newton
Chael Sonnen
Frank Mir
Chris Lytle
Nate Marquardt

Tried to list guys with losses in at least 30% of their fights or more. That looks sketchy on paper but in reality fighting at the top in MMA there's nowhere to hide - MMA isn't like boxing where guys can pad their records and get huge win streaks going.

If the people's conditions are severe to point of surgery being unlikely to save them and yet the surgeon is good enough to save more than half of them.

Or if most of the deaths occur in the beginning of the surgeons career but he improves his success rate over time and others regard him as a good surgeon for his greatest triumphs at his best times
If Demetrious Johnson moved up to 155 and won 50% of his fights, that will be something. That is the example you are giving. LOL

vitor
couture
marquardt
sonnen
nate diaz
tito ortiz

Tell that to Travis Fulton

Tell that to Travis Fulton
Too bad you didn't bold about ten words earlier, where I specified 'at the top'. Fulton has a huge record, but not against elite competition.

What if a surgeon has to amputate a leg and he does an impeccable job at it - except he takes the wrong leg?

Food for thought.

Define "elite"? Fulton fought quite a few future UFC vets early in his career

How about poor fighters with good records.

... Think about it......

And he didn't make a habit of beating them. Draws or losses to Horn, Severn, Griffin, Franklin, Babalu, Ricco, Rothwell, Lindland, The Janitor...I'm sure I am forgetting a few.

Fulton fought some quantifiably good guys with mixed results. Many of the guys he beat aren't well known. That suggests they probably are not elite.

Mark Hunt

13-11-1

Probably fought only 2 cans his entire career..one of which he lost to

Basically started and finished well but had a very poor run between the end of Pride and his second UFC fight when he got serious again.

Nate Diaz, MJ, John Dodson, Clay Guida and many more.

I was looking at Dodson’s record the other day. He’s is 19 and 9, with 2 losses against goat MM, and 4 split decision losses. Dude is a stud.

Anything over .500 is considered to be a good record in almost every other sport.

Not great, but good.

Every fighter mentioned in the OP has a record over .500. Not great, but good.

The word “ poor “ doesn’t apply to those guys, imo.
