Gone Zero Carb.

Anyone seen ribeye on sale in socal? I need to find it as cheap as possible and buy like 20lbs to put in my freezer!

I feel like complete ass if I don't get protein with basically every meal.

I feel like complete ass in a few Weeks if I avoid veggies for too long...

Updates ftw OP :D

Ok, diet/supp forum. I've done it. I've gone zero carb (ZC). This WOE has many names, but ZC seems to fit even if it is not exactly zero. It's also known as "steak and egg", and was popularized by Arnold's trainer Vince Gironda.

I don't want to go into the science of it, if you are interested, "Good Calories Bad Calories" by Taubes is an excellent book to read, or "The Fat of the Land" by Viljahmur Stefansson, who lived on the natural all meat of the Inuit in Alaska while he lived with them.

Part of what makes this WOE so easy is that there is essentially no hunger, and it's easy to not cheat because bad food choices are so easy to recognize.

A quick overview of the essentials:

1. Eat only from the animal world (eggs, fish, red meat and fowl, eggs, etc.).

2. Eat nothing from the vegetable world whatsoever. Very small amounts of flavorings such as garlic/chilis/spices/herbs are OK.

3. Avoid milk and yogurt (carbs from lactose), use only pure ("heavy") cream (read the label), cheese and unsalted butter.

4. Cook your beef as rare as you can while still enjoying it. Pork and chicken must be raised to a high enough temperature to kill parasites.

5. Eat liver and brains only very infrequently- they are full of carbs.

6. Eat plenty of animal fat with every meal (this is important for complete nutrition). 40-75% of calories is considered a good ratio. Avoid vegetable oils if possible.

7. You do not need any supplements of any kind. Drink a lot of water and do not add salt to anything other than a little for flavor if you must.

8. Drink water or unsweet tea when thirsty. Avoid any artificial sweeteners.

That is it.

Proven facts are:
-All nutrients necessary for the human body are present in meat and fat (some say meat must be rare for maximum nutrition)
-Cultures that eat all meat diets have very near no incidence of: diabetes, tooth decay, heart disease, cancer, alzheimers, obesity, and other common diseases. This is regardless of their avg. amount of physical activity.
-There is no constipation associated with this diet. However, movements will be less frequent than on a high carb diet.
-Many tribes ate like this with NO fish in the diet, although it is certainly welcome
-It is near impossible to gain fat mass on this diet, regardless of calorie consumption. You will gain muscle mass though.

---

I am two weeks in, and I feel great. The first few days are a little uncomfortable due to the body's adjustment away from being carb fueled. It's a little like having a cold. But that went away on the fourth day or so.

If there are any Q's I will try to answer them.

You are void of basic knowledge concerning the body. You are not used to eating like the Unuits and for that matter you do not want to look like the unuits. I have studied their nutrition in Anthropology. You are asking for trouble. Is this an experiment?

You know, if you spelled the tribe's name correctly I might take your post more seriously.

Please enlighten me as to my mistakes regarding their eating habits, and how I am "asking for trouble".

Psh, let him ask for trouble if he wants to. It's none of our business what he eats. Quite frankly, I just want to see if he dies to death.

LOL at all the skeptics with poor spelling/grammar. TS, can you keep us updated on your progress with this zero carb lifestyle?

You are obviously void of basic knowledge concerning the body.

Personally I think different races(genetics) are affected differently, thus, using inuits as an example of why this diet would work is not accurate. - Unless you are an inuit.

The genetics of people do adapt. For example: some races are more prone to alcoholism and cant "hold their liquor" because their genetic tree has only had access to it for a very short time, while other races have been around it for thousands and thousands of years.

Just my theories. Best of luck.

Please explain. If I am void of knowledge, it should be easy to point out my mistakes in the thread so far.

So far the only thing detractors have said is essentially "you're nuts" with nothing backing the statement up.

I agree, it's quite obvious that different races have different genetic tendencies-- it's ridiculous to state otherwise. However, my guess is that more than 20k years ago (a small amount of time compared to the time of human evolution) in pre-agricultural populations, regardless of geographic location, people ate primarily meat, with very little scavenged fruits/veggies. They would have taken their time to hunt rather than to forage (animal food would have the highest caloric density, and they would have had to have known this for survival). Why waste a whole day to gather a handful of bitter berries when one hours' hunting could net a feast for the whole clan?

Current status update, for those who are interested--

I'm eating 2 meals/day with a little snacking here and there.

So far I've lost about 5% of total body weight. Belt is one loop tighter.

Mental accuity is unchanged, mood swings are diminished, IMO.

I am rarely hungry between meals, and I eat until full. No calorie counting, but I'm guessing the caloric intake is on the same order as before.

Workouts are good, energy levels are as high or higher than before.

Each day I generally eat a steak, three or four eggs, and some pork or chicken. Some cheese here and there as a garnish or a snack. Lunch at work is easy, I bring a big piece of meat and microwave it.

Glad to hear it's going well. I'd be interested to see your blood profile etc after it's over.

Are you still eating grain fed animals?

I have no problem believing that they consumed mainly meat, however i also am quite positive that at the very least SOME greens/nuts were eaten. Think of the hunters out looking for prey, stumbling upon some plant they know to be edible. I doubt they'd pass up simply yanking some of it with them to munch while they looked for the main course.

I've researched tribal cultures a bit, and meat is most often the main course, however greens and fruits are also very frequently consumed, just more "casually" if that makes sense.

It was a joke.

This was a very interesting read.

TS - I'm with Mike in that a full panel of tests before and after would be really interesting to see.
