Gomi vs Sanchez predictions

diego has seemed to go away from his wrestling in the last few years. he looks really stiff without the speed of his former self.

that is the only reason i'm picking gomi, i dont think Sanchez will be able to get gomi down in the first and get so battered that it hinders him for the rest of the fight. but i'll say that if Sanchez can get Gomi down easily in the first, he'll probably win.

arguably better stand up? i'm sorry but Diego's stand up has been pure shit IMO. If you compare the early 2000s striking of Gomi it's not even close. Gomi's stand up has degraded lately though as he just swings for the fences/has poor training and conditioning, but his power alone would give him better effective striking than Sanchez. Sanchez has won all his fights primarly by grappling. his striking may have progressed a little bit since the BJ fight, but not much. I'm sure hooking back up with Greg Jackson will polish him up though.

Exactly, you're talking about 2000s striking of Gomi. The year is 2013 the last time I checked. But his power alone does not give him better striking because Diego has a better chin AND has much, much better cardio. I wouldn't be surprised if Gomi owns Diego in the 1st then definitely loses the 2nd and 3rd.

Diego used his grappling in his early UFC career, but became more and more of pretty much just a striker especially after he dropped to lw first time.

Diego has won many fights by striking. He lost most of the grappling and was always on the bottom against Guida and he beat him. He wrestled Kampmann but unless he is getting one-punched by Hendricks Kampmann has awesome striking. Thiago he did both standing and wrestling and again before he went back to ww most of his last fights before that was him standing.
