GOMAD and bacne

*Ahem, sciency bit next*

Testosterone is converted to DHT by the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, now there are two types of DHT receptors. Type 1 in hair follicles (and a few other places), which is connected to hair loss. Type 2s are in the sebaceuous glands, and respond by producing lots of sebum. Explains why during puberty the very high test. levels contribute to high eostrogen/DHT levels (causing acne etc.). Some people have higher concentrations of receptors (type 2 in this case) in different areas (face or back). So, using a topical DHT inhibitor may help in some cases (if the acne is actually due to hormonal imbalances). Oral ones (like proscar) have lots of side effects.

I'd recommend a shampoo (marketed for treatment of dandruff) with 2% ketoconazole per volume. I think it may be marketed under "Dezor" or "Nizoral".

Applications for acne are different to other conditions, so do a bit of poking around to figure out how your skin tolerates it.

Good luck.
