Im booking my tickets not a good year for movies tho last film I paid for in theaters was john wick 4.

Saw in on IMAX, which is perfect for giant monster movies.

Best Godzilla movie I’ve ever seen.
When Godzilla 2014 came out I was super excited and was underwhelmed. This is the total opposite, I went in thinking it was gonna be good and it was great.

I’m pretty sure they based some of the design on an earless monitor. When I first saw the smaller design and the head in the water it reminded me of them.

I've got my ticket booked for tomorrow afternoon at 12:30, in IMAX.

I have been a fan of Godzilla since I can remember, and I can remember being 2 years old. This was never passing fandom, in and out, no breaks here and there through the years. I've been stellar in my Godzilla fandom, a passionate and well informed fan, even before the internet took over (G-Fan subcriber back in the mid-90s). And I've never seen a legitimate Godzilla film in a theater, only that abortion in 98. I'm probably gonna get emotional. But I am STOKED.

Haven't seen this one yet, but I doubt it will top Shin Godzilla as my favorite. I'm also a huge Evangelion fanboy which also explains why I like that one so much.

Have to say, Godzilla fans have been much luckier than most fans recent years with all the movies they have been getting. And say what you will about the Legendary films, but at least they seem to really care about Godzilla. Not a single one of their films shits on the fans or the franchise in any way. Even though I thought their movies were kind of meh (just enjoyable for one viewing), I could tell they were made by people who really loved Godzilla.

Loved loved loved the movie until the last scene.

It seems like a new ending tacked on to placate the American audience.

As I mentioned in the other thread, it reminded me of a combination of All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) and Jaws (1975).

It’s not unheard of for Godzilla movies to do something like that. If I remember correctly, at the end of Godzilla 1984 after big G falls into a volcano and everyone thinks he’s dead. You get a Godzilla roar during the credits

I can’t wait to hear what you think about it.

Wasn't just talking about Godzilla.

Godzilla plus another character in the final moments of the film.

you’re gonna fuckin’ love it, buddy. i’m happy for you that you get to experience this one on the big screen. you’re gonna feel like a kid again, i guarantee it.

if you don’t get chills the first time Godzilla uses his atomic breath (on land), i’ll eat my hat.

Do you mean you’re taking issue with:

the woman being alive

Or

Godzilla being alive

i think he’s talking about the first one. it wasn’t much of surprise imo; the movie had bleeding heart sentimentality from the jump & this particular thing was telegraphed [pause for applause] from a mile away.

Both.

Her being alive seemed like a scene that was tacked on after test audiences watched it and told the studio to do it. Her death surprised me. It clearly became the motivation behind his decisions moving forward. It also showed the characters that the war wasn't over yet.

If they really felt the need to add the hospital scenes, it would have been better if her dialogue from the hospital bed could have been "Is our war over?" rather than "Is your war over?" to showcase that he's not alone anymore. After all, WWII greatly impacted the entirety of their country.

As for Godzilla, I don't need sequel bait. Godzilla is a character that can be showcased in a series of single self-contained films for years to come. Let many directors and studios have a crack at it. "This is _______'s version of a Godzilla movie." You get one 180 minute film to showcase war, the fear of nuclear proliferation, and human-vs-nature. Everyone gets their own chance to have a spin using their own flair.

But

I don’t think they tacked on the woman surviving to the ending to give a “happy ending” because they teased that there’s something weird going on with her - they showed some black, pulsing growth on her neck. No idea what they’re going to do with that (Nuclear Godzilla Zombie virus??) but there’s something going on there so I don’t think it’s simply a case of “gotta give the audience a happy ending”.

All that being said I agree that it would have been better had she not survived, because it will take away from the impact of her supposed death on all subsequent rewatches

one thing people haven’t mentioned yet about how the cgi punches well above its $15m budget—almost all of the scenes featuring Godzilla take place during the day. scenes that feature huge cgi spectacles frequently happen at night because it is easier to hide imperfections. this is true for even $100m+ budgets.

truly impressive.

On a scale of Nazi Germany to Netflix, how woke is this movie?

Is it continuation of the movie with Kong? Or a Japaneese subtitled movie?
Same universe. They’re tied together as part of the “monsterverse”. All recent Kong and Godzilla movies along with the tv shows are intertwined
