Glory 24 Denver [9th Oct] - OFFICIAL THREAD

Only if people know the event is happening! my hardcore mma friends didn't even know about the last 2 until i called them the night of.

that is a fair point, theres still work to be done on the marketing side for sure

In what world is Pat Barry a draw?? Its weird when people call any washed up guy who had a cup of coffee in the UFC a draw. GSP is a draw, Rousey is a draw, Conor a draw. Barry and Jacoby...wont gain an extra viewer.

yeah barry will. Sorry, you're exposing some lack of knowledge about maybe the US mma fanbase or something

Barry is immensely popular with the casual and hardcore UFC fan alike, he is well known. Glory perhaps doesnt have the marketing power to properly capitalize on that but he will still draw viewers in, for sure.

He is one of the biggest draws (names) available to Glory for this event. There aren't a lot of other known names they could call up on their roster. I wonder if they could get Bob Sapp to come out of retirement. Sapp probably has more drawing power then Barry.

in Japan maybe, not in the states

Usually you are knowledgable I (biased but knowledgable) but come on. Barry is not known to anyone except the most hardcore MMA fan and even those fans don't care about him. You could put him in one of those high school gym shows and he wouldn't draw a cent.

Man, I thought MMA fans were negative on the UFC forum. It seems twice as negative here reading these Glory kickboxing threads. I always look forward to the cards for what they are, even if some fights fall off. It would indeed be nice if they could get more viewers regularly for Glory events. I can't speak for the casuals but I can say that most of my friends who are hardcore MMA fans and bettors have watched pretty much every Glory show over the last couple of years or so.

Adding in Legacy Kickboxing cards on AXS TV (and Lion Fight muay thai if you want to count that) I believe we now have the most frequent pro kickboxing on U.S.cable tv in history. I don't know if you guys would count that as any kind of success, but that's my perspective as a American viewer.

Unless it is drunken or random or Barry hater fans looking for a repeat of his straight up ass whipping by Zack Mwekassa the last time he was here (in Denver) then you need to stop drinking.

are we now arguing like that? I can't call fighters shit because I can't beat them up in real life? :icon_lol:

the worlds premier kickboxing organization, I got it.

looking at prior post of yours, you don't seem to have of a clue about kickboxing.

Excellent Post.

lol i was talking to someone about this yesterday as they made the same point. It is incredibly negative, there is no forum out there, mma or otherwise, that i've ever seen the same level of bitter negativity on

in a way i think it comes from people being emotionally invested in the sport. At the same time, there's a lot of people with zero experience of promoting, finance, negotiations etc who have a very simplified idea of what they think its like and how things should be done, and they get very angry when the real world isnt reflecting that for them

most UFC fans know Barry;

mate, i worked for the world's leading MMA magazine for nearly eight years as an editor; it was my job to know who had traction and who didnt. Give me some credit please. Barry's peak popularity was the crocop battle and subsequent bromance but he has high name-recognition in the MMA sphere. His name along gets him coverage from the MMA websites, which 95% of Glory fighters don't. That says it all.

barry is popular with mma fans. You may not like him, i dont know, but he has good name recognition and most fans find him likeable. This forum is far from being the arbiter of a fighter's popularity, there are many other platforms out there on which my opinion is based.

you'll see when the fight week rolls around, the amount of headlines/mentions Barry gets will exceed other fighters on the card.

.

You worked for a magazine. They havent been relevant for 20 years.

Stop trying to tell everyone how much you know when its becoming more and more clear you are not in any loop.

the ufc has only existed for 20 years, you idiot

if the magazine i worked for wasnt relevant, somebody should tell all the buyers and subscribers and the 20-odd people who are paid a full-time wage working on it

you are a moron; already you are one of the top five worst posters this forum has ever had, and that is really saying something

dont be jealous please

you're obviously very young and very new to the whole fighting scene, i understand your eagerness to want to have opinions worth sharing and look like you know something, but if you just sit tight for a year or two, read but dont post, also take up some training, you eventually will learn enough that you can also sound like you know what you're talking about.

Pat Barry is by far the most known fighter in the U.S. that glory has under contract. He was a fan favorite in the ufc during its peak. He brings more exposure than anyone else has has more twitter and facebook followers than anyone glory has under contract. He has 4 times more twitter followers than the official glory twitter account.

*DastardlyMass drops mic and walks away*

Not disagreeing on Barry but followers and likes are absolutely useless counters of anything other than how much money they've spent buying them.

JJ you're coming a bit to heavy handed with the "I know more than you, you're an idiot" elitist angle lately it's getting hard to read your posts...

You guys waste way too much energy arguing about stuff that isn't very important lol

I know seriously. We should be spending our time discussing who had the best left teep from southpaw stance in the 90's.

Although, that could've been an interesting topic

What does the UFC existing have to do with magazines being relevant? The answer of course is nothing but thats ok.

I am sure those subscription numbers were huge I mean 20 people! Wow what a company. But again I am the terrible poster who knows nothing because good ol JJ said so.

I really have to think you are drinking heavily at this point because your post is just a rambling mess of nothing but trying to prop yourself up in the little world you live in.

You threatened to fight some guy earlier and now want to tell me how long I have followed the sport. I am pretty sure I would have a better idea of that number then you but again thats ok. Why dont you tell me what else you are better at then me or I guess we can fight you seem to like asking people on the internet to do that.

Anyone can buy followers that means nothing. Being the most known fighter Glory has under contract has much less to do with Barry being popular and more to do with Glory's lack of ability to build up any stars.
Might as well get Shonie Carter signed to Glory since apparently washed up UFC fighters from a decade ago are considered a "Draw"
