Glory 24 Denver [9th Oct] - OFFICIAL THREAD

??? this is not the case at all; some people were relieved of their duties after the PPV but that is all, there was no sell-off

There may not have been a sell off but the entire promotion has changed and that is fact.

yeah???? yeah

look, you don't know anything about tv networks, broadcasting deals, promotion, marketing or the fight industry itself, so why are you passing comment like you are some expert? To people who know these subjects well or in part - and there's a good few on this forum -you have just made yourself look like a complete noob.

What are you actually talking about? The basis of your opinion is what, how you think these things are or should be done? Armchair theory. Same as fat non-athletes sat in their barstools shouting advice at lifelong professionals on the television.

the huge influence Spike has exercised over Glory matchmaking and card format has been discussed endlessly on here, from well before your join date. You should post less and read more. With posts like this you're bringing a rubber chicken to a gunfight.

i think i am probably in the Top 3 people on here who has posted actual detailed informed critique of what glory is/has done wrong and posited some suggestions and tactics. As opposed to people like you who seem to think Glory should kick Spike's door open wearing leather jackets and a Rambo bandana and start telling the primary network how things are. (Where did you do your MBA btw?)

this is incredibly rude. I was so outraged when I read this I almost snapped a biscuit.

I know this is the internet and everyone is invincible but I have a strong suspicion you wouldn't address me like this in person. Try and keep some manners on you please.

The slang you use, I infer you are British. If you are anywhere close to Manchester city center, where i live, I am more than happy to meet up in person to talk kickboxing with you.

Again, a lot of text and very little substance. You're dancing around, blowing a lot of smoke mate. You use an awful lot of words to say absolutely NOTHING. But it's ok, I will help you. Do you think it's a desirable situation when a tv network determines who gets to be on the card? Very simple question. Fucking answer it.

And FYI, I never claimed to be the expert, YOU ARE!!! But I'm sure smart enough to know when I hear a lot of BS. Don't try to turn things around on me, you silly man. And no, I don't live anywhere near Manchester, PMSL!!! Lucky for you, because I would break your fucking jaw.

Rumblings growing louder that a Showtime deal may be in the works. Twitter chatter of Glory CEO meeting with Showtime today. Would make sense since the Super Fight Series already airs on CBS Sports owned by same company. Thoughts?

Showtime boxing has been lapped, so I guess it makes sense that they're interested in Glory. Problem is Glory doesn't get great ratings on Spike, and I doubt Showtime wants to pay to get the top talent only to pull less than 200K viewers. IF this happens I would bet its more like ShoBox: The New Generation, meaning the focus would be on lesser known fighters that come cheap.

Showtime is an excellent quality network. I expect that with Showtime Glory will get more commitment & pr-backing. I hope Glory will regroup and sign the big names (Saki, Spong, Ghita and maybe Hari) again.

no idea about american networks. Is this a step up for Glory?

nobody is saying it is a desirable situation, you fucking idiot. Nobody has ever said that. Everybody, unanimously, has agreed the opposite. So you're arguing with yourself, like one of those old winos in the street who has burned out on cheap cider and wanders around ranting at ghosts.

again, read more and post less so you don't make these silly mistakes

hahaha!

wow. I didn't know people still do the whole anonymous claims of violent capability over the internet thing. It's like being back in 2005. That was some retro shit.

You have never broken anyone's jaw. You have never hit anyone in your life.

People who post things like that are generally over-compensating for their complete lack of presence and assertiveness in the real world. Are you ok? Anything you want to talk about?

it's interesting; they are both owned by the same company? i didnt know that. I guess would allow for more crossover programming, maybe some shoulder programing?

Cocakillbana also makes a good point about certain elements of Showtime's boxing product fading out. Certainly see the angle where Showtime would be coming from if they were looking at Glory

there has been considerable tightening up and scaling back of costs but like Snubnoze says, that was really necessary

Hard to say. It's arguably a more prestigious network, but you have to pay for it, it's not a regular cable network. Probably going to be less eyes on the product.

Glory would pull more than 200K on Showtime. Strikeforce only averaged a bit over 400K in their run on the network and Glory was averaging that on Spike. My guess is they would be more flexible with Glory regarding program air times on international shows and bring some kind of consistency for fans. The question for GSI is how much production control do they give up and what is the upside potential for top end viewership. UFC's argument with the prospect of a partnership before the Fox deal was relinquishing production control and not being able to use their talent. May also open up quarterly windows of opportunity on the main CBS network as well.

How is glory going to pull higher ratings on showtime than on spike? Spike is in over 3 times as many homes as showtime. Also showtime pays considerable more than spike does and their is not a chance in hell they would show the current glory product. They would have to bring in a huge investor or pierre pump another 20-30 million to be able to put on the fights showtime would demand.

Showtime paid strikeforce just under 24 million for a 3 year deal. It just makes no sense for showtime to sign them after the terrible ratings on a spike (not to mention both are owned by national amusement who owns viacom and cbs networks)

The Spike deal sucks. Time to move on. I can't see Showtime making the situation worse, only better.

I hope they get rid of the contender tournament format as well. If they do tournaments, have it be once a year for each weight class. Let the majority of cards be superfights with the CBSports portion a legitimate undercard to build contenders.

They would have went bankrupt and went under if they didn't. An unfortunate reality..

Oh I know, thats why I for some reason thought they got sold off. I understand it had to be done, just sucks because the product pre ppv was a completely different animal. Not to mention about 200% better.

The premium cable world is a lot different then network TV. So comparing the 200k viewers on Spike to Showtime just doesnt work.

Who knows how far in they would want to go but I have to think it would be a little more well funded then the current shoestring budget Glory.

Ya its what allowed Strikeforce to do those CBS shows.

With Al Haymon and all he has done to hurt the big two boxing networks it makes a ton of sense for Showtime to grab Glory and make it something special. They did well with Strikeforce and Glory is an even easier sell to the boxing fan.

Yep plus some Glory crew members are also working for Showtime (f.e. Mauro Ranallo doing the boxing-events on showtime).

I hope Showtime can take over some of the production aspects and rid Glory of that horrific dubstep music. That was a lame trend that died years ago...
