Glory 24 Denver [9th Oct] - OFFICIAL THREAD

That was what I was getting at. Do they really think fans want to see fights featuring guys with sub .500 records in a "contenders" tournament with two good/great fighters in the main event as opposed to guys like

Spong, broke his shin, concentrating on boxing

Valtellini, has Post Concussion Syndrome , temporarily retired

Zimmerman , broke his patella, says he is only boxing for the next year

Ghita, god knows what is going on with ghita; has been inactive since last loss to rico

Verhoeven, fought at glory 22 in june

Saki, could not agree new terms with glory but i hear there has been recent movement on this

Kharitonov, no idea where sergey is

Ilunga, dont know where danyo is, he had some non-glory fights but i guess he will be back in the mix for glory soon at lhw

Cavalari, fighting at dynamite

Verlinden, fought at G20, G22, fought in france again a few weeks after, riding an 0-3 run

Moxon

and

Varga ...

on one fight card? perhaps the whole thing about glory's money issues and cost-cutting passed you by? All these names on one card is not affordable right now plus as detailed above, half of them are on the missing list

my points mixed in with your quote above

So are you telling me that Glory can't find or afford anyone better than Ariel Sepulveda, Quinton O'Brien, Dustin Jacoby (although I really like this guy), Matt Baker, Casey Greene, Edward Hyman, Giga Chikadze, Anvar Boynazarov?

It is almost like Major League, when the opening day roster was announced and the fans were like "Who are these fucking guys?"

you dont like Chikadze? i love watching that guy. Boynazarov showed a tight technical game as well. Both those guys at 65kgs, i think they deserve to be there

the middleweights you listed are mid-tier talent but they were never pushed as anything other - the "qualification tournament" is described as developmental, if i recall correctly

jacoby gets a lot of flak and i can see how people got pissed about him getting spots on various cards but at the same time, i personally like him, and how he got into Glory in the first place and how he has that do-or-die attitude.

He is a real fighter, he's improved literally fight to fight and personally i would love to see him go on a run and start sticking it to some of the more established names. Unlikely but would be awesome. Certainly i think he could give Levin a couple of pointers on killer instinct and how to stage a fight which doesnt piss your own fans off.

but my original point was that from your list, a lot of those guys simply aren't active right now for one reason or another and that has thinned the ranks considerably

the thing is, what is really missing from Glory is storytelling and building fighters. You would have a lot more interest in these fights if you were getting backstory and context and whatnot. But when you just have a parade of names going in there to fight and then go out of the ring and make way for the next pair, its hard to put guys over with the fans.

No they cant, this isnt the pre PPV Glory and I dont think you understand that at all.

This is a totally different animal that is running on a very limited budget. The only similarities is the name of the promotion.

you sound like a crazy person ranting like this, wtf

the american presence is pushed by Spike TV, not so much Glory itself

you cannot call people simpletons when you demonstrate such poor knowledge yourself

I suggest you take a crash course comprehensive reading mate. But it's ok, I stopped taking you seriously a long time ago.

Explains why some of the old school Glory top guys are no longer involved in day-to-day operations. I.E. Bas Boon

no my reading comprehension is fine, even when faced with gigantic unpunctuated walls of text like the one you inflicted on us a couple of pages back, the one which, when deciphered, came off like the rantings of a crazy person.

But yes, i agree with you that it would be better for both of us if you stopped posting for a while and just confined yourself to reading the forum until you know a bit more. I accept your resignation.

(ps - "crash course BI comprehensive reading" )

Well, Bas is apparently busy writing a book. According to himself it will deal with lot's of behind the scene stuff from the PRIDE and K-1 era including bribes, the Yakuza, deaths threats ect...maybe there's gonna be something about Glory in it as well. And how it all turned to sh*t.

to the best of my knowledge Bas was part of the package when Pierre Andurand & Co bought out Golden Glory but he never had executive or operational powers.

surely there are going to be some great stories in this book from the k1/pride fc days though

True. But he might still have some insight since he knows all of them personally. I mean Andurand is still the owner as far as I know but I haven't seen him at an event in a while. Or maybe he was and they just didn't show him or something.

i asked about this recently and was told the primary focus has been on the hedge fund/oil derivatives and that a combination of date clashes for meetings and general limited hours in the day has kept him away from a few recent shows, but its not like policy or anything

Ah ok. It just kind of seemed weird cause he used to be pretty active on Facebook sharing and posting events and stuff and hasn't been doing that either for a while now.

Just a couple months was at the last Roosmalen fight and fought himself too.
Doesn't seem like his love for kickboxing has gone anywhere.

So you're saying Spike is telling Glory how to run their show, yeah?? Well something went wrong with the negotiations there, didn't it? Either you're full of shit, or Glroy is even more incompetent then I thought.

But we all know Glory can do no wrong in you eyes, all is peachy. You Sir, as a professional Glory nuthugger, have no credibility whatsoever when it comes to an objective opinion. Plus you're making up shit as you go, shit that makes no sense at all, and you do it all the fucking time mate.

Spike has been calling a lot of shots for Glory since the start. This is common knowledge.

I was told sitsonpeenong has been approached about a early November date from glory trying to book sittichai. I was also told kunlun has told sitsongpeenong the dates are shifting on their 70kg tournament so the glory title fight might actually come together this year after all

That's promising. Easily my most anticipated matchup in Kickboxing.
