Gladiator 2. UMMM...WTF

I cant believe they spent 310 million to remake a movie that no one asked a remake for.

This Remake shows proof that creativity is gone.

"Spartacus" series is an absolutely wild ride through the rich & powerful of Rome.

The gladiator trainer's role alone is Oscar Worthy, he is truly a mentor, and the fight scenes have gore galore.

It had a solid mix of drama and action. There was good enough character development and story which i guess was just too much for some to bare. There was 7 major battle scenes which is plenty. I wouldnt even see the opening sequence was the best. The slaves battle which was the first gladiator fight and the fight with Tigris with the tigers lunging at them were definitely epic scenes.

You fail to realize that no film before had portrayed things like this and even though they have tried since, it hasnt been close to the same effect.

I will say that Gladiator is also meant to be watched on the big screen. If you didnt have the opportunity to watch it like that, you missed out.

Comparing Ben Hurs colosseum scenes with Gladiators is like comparing scenes from Lion King to scenes from Lion Uprising.

Its not his race I mean. Its his persona. Washington is one of those guys that kind of plays the same role ina lot of movies. I can seem him as a gangster or a cop. Not exactly the person I think of as a representation of ancient Rome.

The guy he played was of Berber origins. So he was North African descent. From Algeria.
So not black but not white.
Denzel even said the guy wasnt Black.

I already addressed this. Ben Hur was great, but the sheer savagery and rawness in Gladiator make Ben Hur look like a PG Disney production. Again, no slight at the brilliance which was Ben Hur, I actually very much enjoyed the story and scope of it, especially for its time. Watching Gladiator, especially on the big screen was just a cinematic feast.

Yes, its old school fimmaking vs cgi magic, but it is what it is. We got to witness the closest thing to actually being in a Roman Colosseum with all its menacing brutallity.

Felt like a DTV sequel from mid 2000s, or 3 episodes of a TV show, but I didn't hate it. Denzel seemed out of place, but ended up being the funnest part of the film. Some cool action scenes, and I liked that 1 on 1 brawl in the hall.

Main character was kinda lame, actor had no screen presence - every time he spoke up, I was zoning out and observing the background - and the plot retroactively has Maximus be a scumbag wife cheater, which affects the scene from the first film where he finds them dead.

It's a 6/10 flick for me. Didn't hate, didn't love it, didn't regret watching it.

Ben Hur doesn't have the savagery but it's near unmatched in Epicness due to the practical aspects of everything. Like the Spartacus series, which equally conveys brutality, Gladiator is marred by obvious CGI. However, considering the date of release of Gladiator, and smaller budget of Spartacus, both are still impressive. We need another Roman-era series with a big budget and Coliseum violence. I haven't seen Gladiator 2 yet, but I've watched the OG at least every two years since it came to home theaters.

LOTR Trilogy did "epic" best IMO, even today, combining CGI and loads of extras, costumes, etc... bringing to life a massive fantasy world and battles like no other. There are some other epic heavy hitters too, like Kingdom of Heaven (need 4k Director's cut yesterday), Waterloo, Cleopatra, to name a few.

Right. Exactly what I mean. He's a very particular persona, you're always aware you're watching Denzel in his films. I just don't see him as an actor suited for a role set in ancient Rome.

Finally got around to watching it last night for the first time. Frankly... I've seen porn done better ffs.

All you need to know about Gladiator 2 is that it has successfully killed off any chance of this becoming a trilogy.

I have and I still think its a good film, even better when stacked up against the junk released in the past couple decades.

I also stay firm in my belief that it is a theatre movie, in that it benefits more from the big screen. Much like the first Jurassic Park, LOTR or Dark Knight. Watching those at home dont have nearly the same effect.
