Well I think in this case she was a fucking bitch, but as I said earlier, I refuse to support putting someone in jail because of some words they said.
It's clear from reading the texts that this guy really didn't want to follow through with it, but her persistence is what pushed him over the edge. He obviously had low self-esteem issues to easily be convinced to follow through with something so ultimate, but that doesn't excuse what she did. Her intent wasn't to help him. Her intent was to see him dead so that she could reap some sort of perverse pity from everyone. That's messed up.
You're saying she doesn't deserve JAIL? Lol...she deserves prison for sure. Fuck that Cunt. She thought because she's a young "pretty* girl she would never get jail and thinks she could get away with anything. Hope this is reality giving her a nice smack in her fucking face. Let her rot in there.
I heard she got almost 3 years in jail. Let's hope it doesn't get appealed. Fuck her
She got 15 months.
And yes, that's what I'm saying. Because there is no actual law that we can point to that she broke. And we, as a society, don't need to just start locking people up because they're a bad person. They need to break an actual law.
Actually...there are MANY countries that have a serious prison sentence for convincing persons to commit suicide. Especially minors. So yes in reality it is a law broken.
We're talking about a specific country (the United States) and a specific state within that country (Massachusetts).
I specifically went and looked earlier, and according to what I read--it could be wrong, but this is what I read--while some states do have laws that make suicide a crime (40 states to be exact), Massachusetts is not one of those states. Furthermore, while some states do have explicit laws against coercing another into committing suicide, again, Massachusetts is not one of those states.
And that's what we're dealing with here: what is and is not a crime according to the laws that govern the state of Massachusetts.
If you say she's a cunt, I'll agree with you. But we can't just imprison people for being a cunt. They have to commit a criminal act according to the laws that are on the books. Otherwise, we can just start locking people up when they do something we don't like, and then say, "Well there SHOULD be a law!'
Unless what I read was wrong, in Massachusetts there is actually no law prohibiting suicide. Furthermore, there is no law saying that it's a crime to encourage someone to commit suicide.
If in fact that's accurate, does that change your mind regarding the legality of the situation?
It's worth pointing out that this case was hotly debated among legal scholars specifically because her actions didn't seem to explicitly violate any actual law.
