GF encourages suicide by text

Sending people to jail because they told you to kill yourself? Might aswell round up a quarter of sherdog, half of xbox live/psn/ and all of 4chan, and direct them to the nearest gulag.

Questionable judgement without seeing the elbows

Are you serious? Do you genuinely think it's ok to encourage someone to end their life?

I imagine laws would depend on where you're from. You can't be serious tho.
I'm very serious, what law is there that would make it illegal? I know she was found guilty, I'm just not sure what she was charged with. I'm guessing whatever law it is, the verdict will certainly be appealed based on the "intent" of said law.

Involuntary manslaughter. And if you read the article, she actually realized she could go to jail for doing it.

as fucked up as this is, it's not her fault. the guy had mental issues, and it's something his parents should have noticed and taken seriously.

From what I recall of initial reports, they barely knew each other and hadn't been in a recognized relationship long before the suicide occurred. She never cared about him and manipulated him from the very beginning, which is why it didn't concern her that he was suicidal and practically pleaded with him to kill himself.

If the guy has mental issues, it's probably not the brightest idea to be constantly encouraging him to go and kill himself.

Its obviously a very reprehensible thing that she did,but the kid who actually did it,is fuckin retarded,so its like if you commit suicide just cos someone tells you too,how far can you really punish this she-bitch from hell? It aint like she killed him herself. He didnt have to do it.

yeah, but people tell people to do stupid shit all the time. can't tell someone they can't say something. free speech and all that.

There's free speech and then there's ordering someone whom you know has serious mental issues to repeatedly get back in a CO filled truck until they go through with it.

You can argue that the parents should've done a better job helping their son, but this person knew just how badly depressed he was, had a golden opportunity to inform his parents or call 911, and instead she manipulated him.

and that's grounds to put someone in jail? don't think so.

If I texted that guy encouraging him to rob a bank and then he did, should I go to jail?

If you are fully aware said act is going to happen and you are inciting it, yeah, you should. Should extortion be legal, too, because it's just people using words and should be protected by free speech?

someone's words don't force you to do something. that ends this debate, in my opinion. unless you can prove otherwise, i don't think there's much left to say.
