Getting a tattoo as a whitebelt?

I think my favorite cliched BJJ tattoo is easily the bear trap on the elbow.

Some people may laugh, but I knew a white belt who had Tapout tattooed on his fingers and he did this before he had ever started training.

IF this isn't a troll, I beg you to not get any tattoos. You just never know. I know a guy who got a Gracie Barra tattoo on his arm and now doesn't train here because of some problems he had with some of the higher ups.

Wait until you know for sure what you want to get. You may think "tapout" is cool now, but you'll regret it a few years from now... that is if you aint a douchebag

Get a tattoo of Tony Cecchine or Rickson on your back throwing the thumbs up like Steve O from Jackass.

Left arm = Octagon with "UFC" in the middle
Right arm = Tapout
Across Chest = Tap or Snap

Get the above for instant black belt status at ur gym.

Perfect, one other suggestion would be to throw in a few "Mr. Cool Ice 2" tats here and there.

my suggestion is "Jesus didn't tap" on one arm and "tap out" on the other one

Afterwards, do an "Affliction" wrapped with barbed wires on your chest

Get this, it means jiu jitsu warrior:

ゲイ
ちんこ

well, I got 2 as I got my blue belt... brazilian on one triceps and jiu jitsu in the other... but is just not only to show it off (though I think its pretty cool) for me jiu jitsu is more than just a sport, I was out deep in a whole before jiu jitsu (still fighting though) but its something that when im down, I can always look at the mirror and gives me strengh to go back to the gym, reminds me how important is and was for me this sport.

but please, DO NOT get a tapout tatto... nothing against the brand, I like some of their stuff... but come on? do you really wanna be THAT guy?

I got a jiu jitsu related tattoo after 6 months of grappling. I knew it was a sport I wanted to do for a long time. No ragrets.

Probably a troll job, but if not, think on it a bit longer I'd say. Do you really want to be advertising a brand for the rest of your life? I have nothing against tatts, I just don't understand people who get a brand name or logo on them. Also if something goes seriously wrong with the brand then things could get a bit uncomfortable (not exactly a great example but think of someone who maybe got an OJ tattoo before things went a bit south for him).

As for an original one regarding BJJ or whatever, if you really want one go for it, though maybe wait a bit longer and get one when you've achieved a higher rank. Hell, maybe make it a celebration for getting to purple or something. I dunno, for one reason or another you might end up quitting or end up hating it. Let it become part of your life before cementing it on your body.

Just my two cents.

Though if you really are hell bent on this I +1 the "just bleed" idea.

I know a guy who got a BJJ tattoo when he was a white belt. He ended up sticking it out until blue, but he was never very good at BJJ. No one made fun of him to his face and he was a nice guy, but people would talk shit behind his back.

The ridicule was mostly around the fact that the guy wasn't even good at BJJ. If you're a crappy purple belt, a BJJ tattoo is okay because you've been around for a while. But if you're a white belt with a BJJ tattoo, you'd better be impressive as all hell.

Are YOU, TS, impressive?

That is ok.
We just worry about people getting club logo tattoo on their chest after 3 months.

so when some hot chick is digging ur tatoo and u say "yeah babe i do jiu jitsu, im dangerous!!" Then she'll be like "oh wow so u must have been training years" and then ull be like "nah few months but my tat ,makes me look badass right??"

spare urself the awkwardness until you at least get a blue belt, people will think ur a poser. Just the facts, im not tryin to hate, and im sure ur actually a really cool guy but im tryin to be honest. It just looks douchey.

hence all the joke responses u got and accusations of trolling. Just wait a little, in the meantime, learn bjj and start thinking of designs, the longer u think about what to get the happier with th design ull be

Do it and post pics so we can tell you how awesome it looks. Please also buy a really expensive Gi to wear in the picture w/ your brand new white belt, along w/ mult complex DVD guard instructional vids.

Behind the knee? Because the bear trap is usually done in the crook of the elbow

Nah behind the knee wasn't too bad. Ribs and scalp were the most painful for me, belly had some sting to it too. Neck didn't hurt at all, hands and fingers didn't hurt, arms and legs for the most part didn't hurt apart from a few spots with a little bit of a bite to them.

I agree. Can't rock a mad phat BJJ tat witout a mad phat bling gi to go with it. You don't want people thinking you're a white belt or something.

Whatever you do just don't get a brand tatooed on you. Unless they were setting you up to be sponsored for life why would you do that? Even if they were...

Ribs made me nauseous like I was going to vomit the whole time rather than actual pain.

I have my calf done and when they got close to behind the knee it was very tender for me.

Wait till your atleast a high level blue or purple man.

Scalp had me in a cold sweat lol.

Not a white belt check off list:

Mad phat BJJ tat: doesn't have one
Mad phat bling gi: doesn't have one

...Seems I'm a white belt :icon_cry2

I got my jiu jitsu nickname tattooed across my back after I got my blue belt.

I don't train anymore, and it's always funny when people ask me why I have 'iron neck' tatted on my back.

I am not trying to troll, just asking for some advice. Thank you to those who didn't mock me.

I want to get the "tapout" tattoo not because I am trying to sponser their product, it's more like an expression. I know I may not be a blue or purple belt but I do plan on sticking to this sport for a long long time.

Yeah in retrospect I shouldn't have gotten my own bjj nickname, 'taps like a bitch,' tattooed across my lower back. But what's done is done.
