As I have just read on another thread, Mikey Triangles, defender of Sherdog honours against the Sensei Als of the world has suffered a bad injury.

From the Pan-ams Thread:

i got so fucked

apparently i'd been trianing with a broken arm the past few weeks, and on my first day training in florida it gave out and my forearm snapped in half when i was preforming a sweep on a larger opponent.

unfortunately i can no longer even go to the event since i had to fly back to ny to get my artm cared for... every doctor in florida sucks.

what really sucks is that i pre-paid for everything in the whole trip, flights, room, registration, etc. and now i cant go, or get my money back. luckily i was sponsored for a lot of it, but in a way that makes it even worse.

Show some support, fellow sherdoggers.

Get well soon Mikey!!!

Ben

chill out and let it heal up properly

Full contact sport, full contact injury.

I can sympathize with you, man. Hope you get well soon!

That sucks shit.

We gotta be patient when we re injured, and be thankful when we re not. It's part of the game.
Take good care of that.

May the schwartz be with you. Get well soon!

thanks for the support guys it means a lot to me. i was pretty upset about the timing on this injury since i was really looking forward to the pan-ams, and i currently am uninsured.

I'm probably going to be getting surgery within the next week to get it fixed. they did try to set it without surgery, but due to the severity of the fracture they said i would likely lose a lot of the range of motion in rotating my fist when it's healed, and since my most powerful punches are my overhand right and right uppercut, i can't risk it. (a lot of people including myself feel i have a decent shot at a future in MMA at bantomweight). not having insurance really fucking blows. it figures i'd get injured during this small window.

again, thanks. for some reason this made me feel a little better

Yuck. Did you used to have insurance and just recently lost it or have you been training all this time uninsured?

I'm currently uninsured right now, as well. I started a new job and won't have insurance for another 60 days so I have to be careful as well to not injure myself.

Super sorry to hear both about the insurance issue, and the injury. Heal up, and get back to kicking ass Mike.

i had insurance up to this year because i was a fulltime student, and i would have been getting it again a couple weeks ago through my part-time job at outback steakhouse, but i quit my job in order to go compete in this series of tournaments. fucking irony.

thats sounds excruciatingly painful... get well soon bro.

Mikey- One word of advise I can give you is-
Be adament about asking the hospital what type of government programs can help you out. If one hospital isn't willing to help you on this, check out another one pronto. Make sure it's the first thing you ask...

The reason I bring this up is because I was in a similar situation and was hospitalized with no insurance. The bill came out to $2300 but I wasn't working at the time.. I enlisted in a program called MSI, and now the bill is taken care of (minus a $25 copay on my part). Same thing happened to my friend- his bill was $7500 due to an MRI- and he was covered as well.... My manager's dad underwent surgery for $19,000, and that was also covered by the government...

They have many programs for the uninsured, and I highly recommend doing a substantial amt of research on this... This could make the difference of thousands and thousands of dollars... Make sure you get an attendee that is willing to help you, because if anybody will know how to get you the best deal, it'll probably be them

Hope this helps

thanks for the advice. so far stony brook in ny has been by far the most helpful. i'll make sure to pry into that though.
