People will unironically say shit like this as though GSP didn't duck rematching Hendricks or unifying with Whittaker, or Fedor who held countless actual squash matches in Pride as champion/#1 and magically doesn't have his WAMMA belt on the line against Werdum when he loses.

Jon though needs to be vilified for saying he'd rather fight Pereira than Tom unless Dana pays him more to do that instead.

I get the Hendrix and Whittaker heat but the difference being that GSP was quick and deliberate that he was done. Talks of these fights barely happened yet when he handed in the belt and let the division move on.

Pride did do a lot of weird non title fights but that was the model they ran with for years. Hard to compare the two.

GSP and Fedor were both vilified for the things you mentioned, so yes.
To be fair though, in the GOAT conversation, ducking Tom is a very small part of that story.

Fedor was 235lbs so that's not even true.

Fedor's hardest fights were also nearly all people his own size where he didn't have a speed advantage so make up your mind whether or not the size disadvantage even affected him.
