It's possible at the moment but only for a portion of the gay male population. It's such a complicated issue though it's very unlikely for some considerable time.

No, I studied psychology BSc and a module of that was animal behavioural science. I further studied evolutionary psychology with a considerable portion being observations regarding animal behaviours.

Quite frankly if you don't see the similarities, it's because you haven't looked.

Evolution and psychology, two things completely out of our grasp. How do you even approach this scientifically in order to study?

I have no idea what you're talking about when you're referring to evangelical opinions lol. I never read the bible and I have no intention of doing it. My point was that the human mind is vastly unknown to us. We spend almost half of our lives asleep and no one knows what function(s) dreams serve. We know very little about ourselves yet we pretend otherwise. Evolution is another mechanism we know very little about. Everything we gathered so far was connecting dots. We have no answer for some of the most basic questions. Let's have some humility and just admit "we don't know" instead of speaking of absolutes, like dividing the world between A and Z with nothing in-between
 
At a high school reunion one of my female classmates finally accepted the fact that two of the guys she dated in high school were gay. One was pretty effeminate and the other was more manly a looking but his name was Leslie and he wanted to be a cheerleader. The girl who dated him was a cheerleader. She just thought he wanted to get close to the good looking girls who were cheerleaders. She thought they were nice guys who respected women because they didn't pressure her for sex like other guys. Both of the gay males she dated were only in the school for one year as their parents moved often to keep people from finding out they were gay.

This was in the mid 60s when the general public didn't seem to think that anyone was gay. You couldn't convince women that Liberace was gay. despite a similar stage act, many wouldn't believe Elton John was gay either.

One of my sisters best friends had a brother who was kind of effeminate. He became a dancer and went to Las Vegas then Hollywood. His sister told how he was bartender at Rock Hudson's parties. At a reunion years later she found out that he was gay and died of aids in the 1980s around the same time Rock Hudson died.

All of these guys had more close female friends than male friends as I suspect they avoided being discovered. It had to be a difficult time for them.

I suspect many homosexuals married in the past just to cover their sexuality. Have a child or two in an otherwise sexless marriage to keep up appearances.

i never grew up with any kids who were gay, or at least i didn't think they were. that's kind of crazy when i think about it, given that i grew up and live in the san francisco bay area.

Same way as you approach any scientific enquiry, with a hypothesis and a method of inquiry based on empirical or measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning.

Like:

Hypothesis: a proportion of an adult persons make up is due to their genetics, another portion from theor environment.

Method: identical twins separated for adoption at birth reunited 30yrs later, a broad measurement of their personality and capabilities. Thousands of pairs studied.

Results: approx 70% is genetic, 16% is peer group, 10% parenting style/environment.



Or how about the drink drive limit? Psychologists assess the effect of alcohol on people's ability to complete a course, tested before and after sober and drunk to varying degrees to establish control group.

Data shows the effect of alcohol on reaction times and ability, government then chooses a point by which the deficit is unacceptable and sets the limit
