Economy Gas Price Spike thread v3

Lol, what?

Every year. And service charges go up as well.

I’m not anti-electric, have a Rivian R1S sitting in the garage.

Mine hasn't gone up in 10+ years.

Consider yourself lucky. That is not the norm.

So let's assume you bought a Tesla in 2014 with a 60kwh battery. At 12 cents, it would have costed you about $7.20 to charge your car. Now, in 2024 at 15 cents, it would cost you $9. A whopping $1.80 more.
Let's break it down even further. Assuming you drive 10 miles a day, it would cost you less than a dime a day more than you did in 2014.
Inflation has far outpaced that.

No doubt electric is the most efficient. The power is insane as well. I have built classic cars that can’t compete with my wife’s grocery getter, which is funny and sad at the same time.

The only caveat is towing. Electric trucks just aren’t there yet when it comes to towing efficiency. Diesel still can’t be touched in that regard. I wonder if a plug in hybrid diesel will be the first step in that direction?

It's just seasonal pricing. More people drive longer distances in the summer.

I fill gas about once every 10 days. It's always around $120-$140 per month. I'm more concerned about monthly expenses that are going up each like heating oil, home and auto insurance, fees and subscriptions. Or have you tried to pay for Uber/Lyft lately? It's more expensive now than traditional taxi.

Doesn't matter to the voters they just are going to remember how high the gas prices were and are under the current administration when they vote in November....
Sure but the thing is you should know better but apparently you don’t care and will vote ignorantly anyways

The most recent spike was region specific, which was mentioned already

All my vehicles take 91/93. I've been paying 3.24 for that in NY metro area.

This is great!
Here in PA I can't remember the last time 92/93 was below $4.00 for more than a week or so.

Same, I paid 3.85 in Vermont last week. I was right off a major highway though so that may have been a factor.

these are small numbers compared to fast charging on the go, some people dont have homes and charge at super charger stations. Tesla can be 33c in the same are, while a non tesla 55c, the price can vary a lot.

as much as I disliked the vehicle, the GM electric truck should have ok towing, the range it has is 500 miles, from my understanding, that's a lot more than anyone else.
