Garbrandt Vs Munhoz Exchanges and KO (GIF)

It's the same Cody. If you rewatch that fight, you'll see that it was (shockingly) Cruz who pursued an idiotic strategy. He kept trying to pressure Garbrandt despite the fact that he was getting carved up by the counters.

If Cody doesn't get his career back on track as legit contender at 135, that win over Cruz should be up with there with Serra/GSP is one of the most improbable fight outcomes ever.

Keep in mind that Cody wasn't really tested before he got his title shot. He beat Mizugaki and Almeida. People were really impressed with the Almeida KO at the time, but it really shouldn't mean much now seeing how Almeida's career has turned out.

Maybe.

I’d like to see Ricky Simon get a go at Garbrandt next.
It’s a great test for both guys.

Kind of reminded me Lineker vs Francisco Rivera.

Book Lineker against Cody

Lol manlets

They have to hit each other flush on the chin like 50x to knock each other out

Cody needs to practice defense and protecting that chin.

I could see that ko coming before it even happened. It was inevitable

Funny thing is the Cody that fought Cruz showed some of the best defense in MMA (for what that's worth). But so far that Cody has only appeared once.

Exciting to watch, but his fight IQ doesn't seem to have improved.

His fight IQ is about....0 now. Throwing wild bombs, hands by his side, chin strait out and looking like a wind mill.

Meanwhile his opponent is rolling with the punches, hands up, keeping his head/chin kind of down. Only a matter of time before Cody get's tagged.

Unfuckingbelievable. He did the same exact damn thing against TJ, throwing himself into that same punch twice with no fucking hand by his chin. He spams the same right hand every time he gets in that range, with the left hand down, waiting to be tagged.

Watching it, it felt like he got micro-knocked out several times on the feet during that crazy exchange: he'd get tagged, there would be a split second where he just stopped, and then would start swinging again.

Maybe he can inject a fuck-ton of stem cells in his head to help with the chin problem, or maybe move up a weight class and stay more hydrated. Or, do some defense with less looping 100% punches, why not...

With that said, it was one of the more exciting fights on the card. I was watching it w/ some civilians and they were into it. "The guy with the tattoos is so much faster than that other guy" ... "Oh, wow."

Put the cyborg / nunes fight on after that, and they are convinced MMA is crazy, insane, exciting. Carefully avoided the JJ / Smith thing.
That’s the crazy part is he barely cuts any weight. The California AC showed their fight night weight and MM and Cejudo weighed more then him when he fought dillashaw.

Ah, the good 'ol days when his opponents couldn't exploit it.

Yeah I remember him finishing that fight with Almeida in a similarly wild exchange.

Seems it doesn't work everytime.

Drops left hand, proceeds to drop left shoulder, fully exposes chin; proceeds to swang and bang. But why, dude clearly has technical skills. Control your emojis bro. You may only live once but you’re free to fight many more times. Take it easy...

I hope he doesn’t move up. If he does he better fix his game and come correct. Imagine him fighting Ortega, Aldo, Holloway, Stephens, the list goes on who would easily put him into a coma fighting like that.

Some crazy exchanges. Cody needs to smarten up quick or he's going to have a short career.

When I saw him go into rage mode, I thought JCVD kicked him in the face again.

Everyone here has an opinion. Just remember we arent professional fighters. We don't know what its like to be in that cage. I dont even like Cody but give the kid a break.

Man... We need to talk about how good Pedro is... Not about how bad was Garbrandt. He was fucking good, Pedro was just better.

Pedro Munhoz is fucking legit. We need to talk about this and stop diminishing Garbrandt. Pedro is a fucking monster, TJ is in a really bad spot with two fucking legit brazilians trying to beat him.

Respect Garbrandt and WAR PEDRO!!

Fair --- I didn't mean it as a good option. Just that if his chin is indeed problematic, there doesn't seem to be a lot of practical insight into how to fix such problems. The hydration was meant as a tongue-in-cheek hail-mary move. Didn't realize that he didn't cut much weight as @ABSthetics pointed out.

The guy fights the way every paying mma wants too see and still gets shitted on, unbelievable.

Dude is a warrior, god bless him.
