Ah, the good 'ol days when his opponents couldn't exploit it.

Poor technique, bad fight IQ, too much pride and no chin. Cody only won the belt because he fought an injured Cruz while jumping all the line.

Cody went out the way that Andy Wang always dreamed of; A Warrior!

Christ...just slow the fuck down. Pick your shots. Don't just brawl you chinless dipshit

Cody needs to understand the concept of blocking punches if he's gonna stay in the pocket and bang. Especially with his chin strength. The whole time they were having the fight ending firefight Munhoz was putting his hands up to block his face and then firing off his own punches. Cody just fired from the hip with his hands at his waist with absolutely no regard for Pedro's power. He had his chin high and stationary also.

Exciting to watch, but his fight IQ doesn't seem to have improved.
Forget about Cody; you can see Munhoz's chin cracking here too. He began his career as a grappler and fell in love with brawling. He's gonna end up like Cody in a year or two.

I'm still not sure what Brimage did to piss off Sean Shelby or Dana. They threw every single hot shot prospect in two different divisions at him until he lost his way out of the promotion.

He’s gone from a relatively decent fighter to basically taking on the “Chris Leben” strategy

Even Chris Leben had more strategy than that, he use to duck his chin and take punches on the top of his head. Granted, not a smart strategy for the long term but helped him absorb damage and not get knocked out and it's not like he had speed and technique like Cody. Cody just decided why bother.

No. In order to undertake the Leben strategy you have to go successful zombie. Cody can't even do that.

or maybe move up a weight class and stay more hydrated.
He’s already small for the weight class. He wasn’t much (if any) bigger than Mighty Mouse when they fought on the same card for UFC 227.

Or, do some defense with less looping 100% punches, why not...
Agreed. He has shown good head movement with a more measured and patient approach vs Cruz. He’s not durable enough to bite down on his mouthpiece and sling leather with heavy punchers.

The Cody that fought Cruz is evidently gone forever.

Cruz was getting older and had a lot of injuries.

Not saying you’re wrong, but it’s really hard to know that for sure.

It's the same Cody. If you rewatch that fight, you'll see that it was (shockingly) Cruz who pursued an idiotic strategy. He kept trying to pressure Garbrandt despite the fact that he was getting carved up by the counters.

If Cody doesn't get his career back on track as a legit contender at 135, that win over Cruz should be up with there with Serra/GSP is one of the most improbable fight outcomes ever.

Keep in mind that Cody wasn't really tested before he got his title shot. He beat Mizugaki and Almeida. People were really impressed with the Almeida KO at the time, but it really shouldn't mean much now seeing how Almeida's career has turned out.
