'Gangs of New York'...forgot what a great movie it is

I was like 10 when Sopranos started.

you sound old
I was just a few years older and still enjoyed it, even in Ireland The Sopranos was massive when it was first aired. Watched it again in my 20s and then again last year. Gets better every time. There's a reason its recognised as the GOAT TV show. The Wire a very close 2nd

Never was a particular fan of this tbh, aside from DDLs performance. Very weak narrative. A rare dud from Scorsese.

I've never watched it, will give it a go. I presume I'll like it since I have a fondness for NYC and I'm pure Irish stew. Diddly idle too ra loo

DDL knocked it out of the park.
Great cameo by Liam Neeson.
Gleason, John C Reilley, and Gary Lewis all put in very good performances.
Leo and Cameron were vanilla, but also smart enough not to attempt to out-act DDL.
Good production by Scorsese.
Good story, but drags on longer than it needs to. Ending felt anti-climactic.
8/10.
It did drag a bit at stages , especially the Diaz and Leo scenes, a bit more DDL sharpening his knives would have been better. The ending was decent, dunno how to do spoilers so I won't say anything

9/10

Indeed, I think another example of Marty getting caught between doing one of his crime drama epics and a genre film that really didnt do either that well as with The Departed.

I'm guessing though thats what was needed for the studios to give him the budgets he was after, they probably wouldnt have gone with more of a Goodfellas like epic of Bull the Butcher it needed the Leo orish revenge story/romance.

Not really, the Irish that came in their millions through NY during the 1840s got the original settlers pissed. Tbf I don't blame them

Ah well shit happens. They had the English to blame for that

Original settlers..nah, surprised I wasn't pulled on that. The originals were the native Indians...ffs, they had it rough

The Departed better than GONY? Ah man, ya must be jokin

Leo Irish accent is distractingly bad. I wish they could have found an excuse for him to sound a little different. Otherwise it’s great

Leos character was born and bred in NY, surrounded by the Irish immigrants, so he had a mutt accent which he actually pulled off

He did a really good southern African accent in Blood Diamond.
Unless you're an Afrikaners I don't think ya can say that. I played rugby with a few SA lads and they said his accent was bollox

I always forget how damn awful her accent is when I think of that movie. She should have faced trial in the Hague
Wasn't that bad at all. She did a decent County Limerick/Clare accent

Cool movie and I think this is one of the last movies where they actually built an extensive set for, which is pretty awesome.
