Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

He's probably talking about how the 4060 was inferior to a 3070 (and even a 3060 Ti) when the 3060 was better than a 2070, the 2060 was better than a 1070, etc.

I'm aware, but the 4060 is an outlier, and as each generation is tier respective to its own generation, not the one before, I'm not aware of a concrete means to assert they downgraded the SKU tiering. The example where they really played a stupid game with the naming conventions was their botched attempt to call the 4070 Ti the 4080 12GB at launch. Otherwise, one is simply imposing an awkward assertion onto separate judgements of how disappointing a generation's advancement relative to its predecessor is. It's not like there is some objective delineation of what makes the xx70 tier what it is. It is simply named that because it is between the xx80 and xx60.

Mouse is starting to go out and need to upgrade. Have had the mouse for years and definitely before I started migrating over to PC for primary gaming.

Looking for some recommendations on a good gaming mouse. Not really sure what makes a good gaming mouse and what sets them apart other than throwing on a bunch of extra buttons.

What's your budget?
What do you currently have?
Wired or wireless?
What games do you play?

Mice are very subjective due to shape. You could have the best hardware, but the shape could all wrong. Weight can make a difference as well.
If you live in the USA, and are by a Best Buy, it's worth it to take a trip to the store and look at their mice. They usually have a bunch of models on display throughout the store that you can hold, and see how they feel.

Or you can just buy this bad bitch.

Correct. Compared to the previous gens it was a downgrade tier wise. Wasn't even the architecture or features that were the main issue, spec wise they started to downgrade everything half to a full tier below.

The 4060 was a 107 series Die which is literally xx50 classification. Had to overclock it to the moon to get any significant uplift

The 4060Ti had a smaller die, less bandwidth, and lower memory bus compared to the 3060Ti. Once gain had to overlock it to the moon just to be slightly faster.

4070 was almost identical to the 3060Ti in terms of die size, bandwidth and power consumption. The intentional gimp of it was so apparent pre-lease that people speculated that they wouldn't be surprised if it was intentionally gimped to leave a wider gap for them to push a Super and Ti variant.

The ended up doing BOTH a super and Ti variant........... (with the Ti trying to be disguised as the 4080 12GB model so they could charge more money)

All of this is true, but again, there is no objective basis to say there was a downgrade in classification. The 4060 and 4060 Ti's cut down bit width was an outlier. The 3060 Ti had the same bus as the 3070 and even the 3070 Ti, after all. That was a bit of an outlier itself. The 3060 had the same bus as the 2060 and even the 1660 Ti, and a narrower bus than the 2060 Super.

All of those different things aren't calculated in a vacuum, but considered overall in order to place the product where they want it. NVIDIA has gotten greedier, but that isn't tantamount to asserting there has been some sort of concrete downshift in SKU tiering across the board (because there has never been a concrete association of rasterization pipelines and SKU tiering in the first place).

That hing is nuts. I do have a light gun that works pretty great.

As for the mouse, away from the house for a week with the family and can't recall what brand it is. I liked the way it and it's ergonomics so will probably buy the same one. Just didn't know if there were some killer features out there I didn't know about. No real budget, even an expensive one seems to be under $200.

Is it a Sinden?

There really hasn't been any crazy new innovation besides the Logitech Power Play wireless charging mouse pad thing.

Yeah, sensors and buttons have gotten better, but there hasn't been a "generational leap" of performance.
The current trend is trying to make them as light as possible. That's why you see some with speed holes.

That's pretty slick. Typically choose wired over wireless just so I don't have to charge it. Being able to play and charge is pretty rad. Will definitely keep that in mind when buying a mouse to combo this together.

Current trend of mouse manufacturers is achieving 4000hz polling rate. Which is absurd, lol.

Been using it since 2018(?) with G502 variants. Have had zero issues with it.

These days, it's standard for wireless mice to come with a USB cord that is what you use to recharge it. You can just plug it in and play wired until it's done recharging. The only reasons left to choose wired are if a particular mouse doesn't come in a wireless version, or because it's cheaper.

Jeff already mentioned the obsession with grams. That's all mice nerds talk about on online forums, but I suspect most gamers still probably make their choice based on (1) the number of buttons available, and probably more importantly (2) the size and shape of the mouse.

Per the latter, the best tool out there for examining choices is Rting's 3D Mice Shape Comparison Tool:

Although a more obscure and crude community-fed tool that can be useful if Rtings hasn't reviewed a mouse is this website that gives you a rough idea of the outline:

Not hard to see why the Logitech G502X continues to be the bestselling model template out there. It's so versatile. Although Razer's Basilisk V3 Pro is a worthy competitor.

It's pretty slick, but that pad is $100+. And, of course, it's proprietary to Logitech products.
I think Razer has their own version, or they're coming out with one.

I use a magnetic charger for my mouse, and I really like it. It works like those old Macs that had the mag safe magnetic chargers, except you have a dongle you leave in the charge port of your device.

The Razer Viper and the G-Pro Superlight 2 are 8khz. Why? I don't know. Even S1mple and Donk use 1khz. At 8khz, you're probably going to take a performance hit unless you have a beefy setup.
Optimum Tech has a video discussing the actual benefits of the increased polling rate, and my conclusion was that it won't make a difference for me. IIRC 1000hz to 4000hz is 1/2 a millisecond.

*shocked Pikachu face* you mean you're not using a sub 60g mouse?! You can't compete at your levels unless you have a mouse that would blow away in a slight breeze.

@Madmick Check this beauty out. I think G2 forced Matys to upgrade when they signed him.

Funniest part is FPS Pro's who use 1K+hz polling rate cant use it on playoff stage lan setups. Stage has so much surrounding electrical interference it creates massive input lag, lol.

I have both, they're both great. The V3 Pro (I have the 35K version, got it for the same price as the standard V3 Pro) has a superior mouse wheel imo though.
Do you prefer Razer Synapse or Logitech G Hub on the software side, these days?

I think Synapse is kind of decent, never really had any issues with it. I use the Basilisk on my desktop and the G502X on my laptop but I actually just use "Logitech Onboard Memory Manager", it's lightweight and way better than G Hub. I pretty much only open it to check my mouse battery.
