Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

What is BOPIS? I'm away 'til April!!!! which is annoying because my current laptop is really pissing me off at this point
Buy online pick up in store. And bummer. Maybe send it to a friend if you're really fiending for it. Otherwise, I'm sure other deals will come along, Best Buy buys quarterly and faster than almost anyone else these days.

people are literally camping out in front of micro centers days in advance waiting for the 5090 to hit shelves.....their reason being that they don't want to have to pay even more for a gpu that already costs thousands of dollars.

they've got over 10 tents set up now lol.

But like... the lost income almost certainly outweighs the cost of scalping. But whatever. I'm glad people still get hyped enough to camp out in this day and age.

Neither Microcenter here will have 5090s on launch "due to unforseen delays." They said people can line up at 9pm for a 5080 though.

As someone who paid more than I wanted to (or should have) for a 4080 (completely new build in a new country, no old graphics card in the attic to tide me over), I have to admit to feeling relief that the 5080 isn't some amazingly better card at a fraction of the price. I still overpaid, but it wasn't as bad a choice as it could have been.

Looking at the charts, in same games they’re virtually even. 40 series was a good time to buy.

I’m pretty disappointed in this series tbh. The 5090 costs too much imo, and the 5080 is intentionally not future proofed. I was holding out for these cards before I built a new system. Now I’m not sure what I’m going to do

You're right. I think for a lot of people it's going to be game dependent.

My guess is there will be a 5080 ti/super with more VRAM in 12/18 months' time, for the release of the GTA VI PC port. That port should have so many bells and whistles attached to it, like RDR2.

I watched another review on it since I posted and honestly the 5080 is a pretty big dud. The only reason I am still even kind of considering it is you can’t find the 4090s for MSRP. But even still, they’re asking for the price of a 4080 super that’s barely better and some games are running up against the 16gb limit already. They know this and you’re exactly right, they’re planning a “5080 Super” down the road to fix this

To bad AMD bowed out of this range. This is a good time for them to strike if they had something in the works

This is the "main" MC here. There were definitely a lot more than four people when I drove by earlier.

I admire the degree of obsessiveness to have the latest and best no matter how outrageous the cost.

I'd like to have one just to mess around with since I value gaming efficiency above all else. Apparently you can limit a 5090 to 400w and only lose 5% performance.
Plus I'm interested in doing stupid shit like setting a 4090 to 115w (4060 TDP). <lmao>

i wouldn't mind a 5090.

you in the market for a kidney bro?
lol not sure a kidney will cut it. I just watched a Gamers Nexus video and practically no 5090s even came to the us. Within an hour of releases scalpers were posting them for like 6k. It’s not a real product launch

Most Microcenter locations received less than twelve 5090's for launch day. I'll be cheering for Nvidias demise from now on as a company.
I don't get it. Scalpers don't help them. Why don't they have adequate supply? Do they hate money or something?

Would you guys have been happier if launch was 3 months from now in exchange for better stock in the US?
