Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

I have a Magni, and the biggest benefit to me was that they're made in America.

At $70, you're usually looking at SMSL and FX audio level stuff for dedicated headphone amps. You can get the FiiO E10k or iFi Uno, but they're more dac/amps.
Some of that Chinese stuff isn't too bad. I have an SMSL SAP50 that's lasted longer than the Sony receiver it replaced.

I've been tempted to pick up the Fosi Audio K5 Pro when it goes on sale. It's USB powered, but having that mic input would be nice.

$70 is a good price for the magni in todays times. many years ago when i was in the market they were selling online on their website for $100 + tax and shipping and that was still a pretty good deal.

@Madmick For that 7800X3D bundle the RAM (F5-6000J3238F16GX2-FX5) isn't on the QVL for the mobo (B650 GAMING X AX). Is that a big deal even though it has EXPO according to Gskill?

The QVL is just a guarantee it will run at its advertised/overclocked speed because the motherboard manufacturer has taken the time to verify those specific kits. Not appearing on the QVL doesn't mean it won't run at that speed. It almost certainly will. The best way to know for sure is to look for reviews by buyers (verified buyers if you can find them) on the exact same motherboard stating whether or not they achieved that preset XMP/AMP frequency. And if you can't find comments about this issue for that exact motherboard, then other motherboards in the same class by the same manufacturer for the RAM kit.

Microsoft will be rolling out their own universal upscaling tech

i'm not familiar with this at all. any chance of this beating out DLSS 3.5? or is this kind of like a one size fits all approach as an alternative to get similar gains but off lower end hardware? i'm really not sure what to make of this but you and madmick probably know more than i do on this.

No one knows at this point, I don't think this will supplant DLSS or anything. This will be like their own universal up-scaling tech. I wouldn't be surprised if it's implemented in the consoles as well.

I wouldn't bet on anybody beating NVIDIA in anything in terms of these software sophistications. The stock market isn't always smart, just like Vegas odds lines aren't always right, but they almost always are.

And there's a reason NVIDIA hit a $2 trillion valuation intraday before any other company on the planet.

In the words of the mortal Madmick I don't know what the F#ck you're talking about. Before any other company on the planet? Microsoft, Apple an anyone a certain SA oil company.

My mistake. I mentally dismiss Saudi Aramco because it's state-owned, and if I counted that, I would think about the Bank of China, for example, despite the difference that it isn't publically traded. But I continually overlook Microsoft.

Microsoft is as "fucked" as Intel. Still, I have yet to see them really compete, here. ChatGPT isn't DLSS.

I'm probably gonna pull the trigger and get that 7800X3D bundle at MC today. My OCD is telling me that since I'm gonna have the best CPU for gaming I should get the best GPU for gaming and drop $1800 on a 4090 they have in stock.

Kinda tempted to just go pre-built on my new setup. I know how to build a PC (I build servers for a living for fucks sake) but ya know, I spend all day arms deep in massive systems gritting my teeth and cursing whomever designed server stacks to have sharp edges. I'd rather not come home and have to... put a damn PC together. I know I can get a better system for the same amount, but fuck I am getting lazy with age.

How close are you to St Louis Park in MN? There's a Microcenter there and they'll put it together for $150.

Sir, you may have missed my previous posts. I work for a tech company, and as I just stated I build servers for a living. I can 100% build a gaming PC. Hell, I could probably just take it to work and do it in my spare time.

Why on gods green earth would I take it somewhere where it costs me money to have some snot nosed kids who are probably wasted on god only knows what touch my components? I barely even trust my coworkers, taking my current rig in was a last resort.

I think @Madmick has recommended Cyberpower in the past.
