Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

It's not. It's a demonstration that the eye adapts, and can be trained to see it. They've already done tests with esports pros, and they've exhibited a slight (but marked) improvement with 240Hz above 144Hz. Specifically, pro gamers have demonstrated an ability to leverage reaction time and accuracy improvements with those extra frames far above casual gamers. Going from 240Hz to 360Hz is where the data becomes less clear, but then, none of the testing I've seen has collected a massive amount of data on that.

I remember when HD first came out a lot of people swore they couldn't tell the difference. Try that now. Try to put people accustomed to 1080p (and 4K lately) back on a 480p display. Even with a great source image, like a DVD, good luck with that.

Sometimes it takes the brain some time to learn. In a way, we're not different than A.I., in that respect, with their data training aggregators.
Yeah I tried out a 240hz monitor in a computer store when I went to pick up an online order, I could tell the difference for sure and had to stop because if I went any further, I felt I wouldn't be able to go back to 165hz... Lol.

In real time the visual smoothness of character animations helps with crosshair tracking. Holding a angle it also aids in reaction time for the character model is displayed more frequently.

Welllll, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a new rig. I was just thinking I won't need to look in this thread for another 5 years or so. But now y'all making me think I need to upgrade my monitor! I don't think I will tho lol. I know I've peppered many of you with questions, thanks for always being so helpful; big respect!

@Madmick helped me get the best monitor of my life for a great price. Actually he helped me build my whole new rig. He's a fountain of knowledge so get his take on anything you're thinking about buying

Processor = New Price (vs. Original MSRP, Percentage Discount)
  • R9-7950X = $588 ($699, -16.0%)
  • R9-7900X = $418 ($549, -23.9%)
  • R7-7700X = $343 ($399, -14.2%)
  • R5-7600X = $244 ($299, -18.7%)
AMD’s Ryzen 7000X3D Chips Get Release Dates: February 28th and April 6th, For $699/$599/$449
  • Ryzen 9 7950X3D = $699
  • Ryzen 9 7900X3D = $599
  • Ryzen 7 7800X3D = $449

If the 7800X3D doesn't take the crown as the best gaming processor it won't sell. Because $449 is an impossible value ask when the R7-7700X is $345 on Amazon, and in fact just $298 right now on Newegg with an at-checkout $50 promo code kickback.

I was more in the neighborhood for a “gaming” mouse/keyboard for if I was to hook my laptop up to my TV. I do most of my gaming on my PS5 but picked up a gaming laptop in order to play PC exclusive titles.

And by gaming mouse/keyboard I don’t care about RGB or having crazy additional mouse buttons etc. just good latency is the only thing that matters to me because the majority of titles I’ll be playing would be FPS games, mostly Indie “boomer shooters” but maybe the odd game of Counter Strike here or there.
I don’t know if any good kb/m out there don’t have RGB these days. I would say that it isn’t completely trivial on KBs though. I play in the dark sometimes so it can be useful.

I wasn’t suggesting I’m adverse to RGB, my gaming laptop already comes with it for its keyboard, I was just suggesting the most important factor for me in getting a wireless keyboard and mouse was latency if I wanted to hook up my laptop to my TV and game from the couch.

Corsair used to make a great combo keyboard/lap desk combo for their K63. Seems like it’s discontinued maybe for a new product called lapdog which I’ve not used

144/165hz is fine for the general gamer. Its only when you start branching off to competitive multiplayer games where increased refresh rate becomes a benefit.

Apparently nothing. Woke up and they cancelled my order saying security issues. I sent a picture of me, my card, and i.d. and they are still refusing. I'm in another country at the moment so going to find a bank to do a money order isn't in the cards. Like shit, I didn't know they still existed lol, been over a decade since I did one. The customer service rep I've been emailing comes across bad - very cold, with poor grammar, so I have a bad taste in my mouth at the moment. I guess fraudsters make things tough for everyone.

really satisfied with the performance, thermals, noise and power efficiency of my 4070ti so far just doing a bunch of stress tests and benchmarks at 1440p.

needless to say i'm still not happy about the price tags of all these new series of cards. these definately not really on the value end. but with that aside, from all the testing i've been doing so far, i do say that i am impressed by this cards performance. though if it was a few hundred bucks cheaper i'd probably be raving to the moon about it.

this is a stud card for 1440p 120hz gaming. i'm seeing rather significant gains over my 2080 in that department. maybe one week i'll screw around and see how it does with 4k. for the meantime i'm just gonna keep on mucking around with other games. curious to see if microsoft flight simulator can bring my pc to its knees this time around, and find out whether or not this new generation DLSS3 stuff lives up to the hype.

Finally I was able to get a 4090 card. Now I have a problem with the power connector cable sticking out upwards about 1.25" and I cant bend the cable lines at 90 degree without having the infamous 4090.

get one of these when they launch later on this month

you dont want to bend the cables on those power adapters. with a 4090 and the power it draws it might be a fire hazard waiting to happen, and its actually been melting peoples cables. use a cablemod adapter for now to alleviate the bent cable issues which are causing that problem.

PNY VERTO OC GeForce RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6X PCI Express 4.0 Video Card
They had it for stock on newegg so I made the purchase. I've been seeing more of the 4090s in stock if you check on microcenter and even Best Buy compared to in january. It seems to be more readily avaliable now.

Now I just need to either a u-turn/90 degree adapter for the card power supply as soon as they start manufacturing them from the site below

Thanks I signed up on the list for it after I bought my card. Now I just have to wait perhaps a month or so for it when they launch. In the meantime, I guess I would have to keep my PC case open for weeks but it isn't so bad since we are still in the winter and spring season
