Like we're supposed to be grateful if the RTX 4070 is $699 when the GTX 970 released at $329 in Sep-2014. Even adjusted for inflation that would be $409 today. These motherfuckers are trying to pretend crypto didn't crash. They want to normalize the last gen's prices. Fuck them.

The next teaser is even more cryptic, as it shows the monitor above the previously disclosed chart. It includes a post-it note with a phone number on it: 208-629-7538. It consists of the tagline, “this number will self-destruct.” As far as what it means, one guess is that it hints at the chip’s specs and performance. The “208” could mean a 208 percent uplift from RTX 3090. That’s been rumored previously, but it’s hard to believe for obvious reasons. Nvidia hasn’t offered that level of performance from one generation to the next in quite some time, if ever. That was definitely not the case going from Turing to Ampere.

The following number — 629 — could be the size in millimeters of the AD102 die, which is the full chip. Interestingly, AD102 from Ampere was the same size, except it was built on Samsung’s 8nm process. That means Nvidia used the smaller TSMC 4nm process for Ada but kept the die the same size. That would allow for a lot more transistors. Ampere’s GA102 packed 28.3 billion transistors into that die, so what does that mean for Ada?

That leads us to the final number: 7538. That could be the transistor count in billions of the full chip, 75.38 billion. If that’s true that means it’s tripled from Ampere to Ada, which would be an unprecedented leap. For reference, the RDNA2 die from AMD was 520mm with 26.8 billion transistors, according to TechpowerUp’s database. A chip with 75.38 billion transistors would be, frankly, insane.

Anyone payin these prices for cards is an idiot. Last gen was absurd, but had the minin boom....
Now were going into a recession, with high inflation, cost of living, and a busted mining scene flooding us with cheap GPUs....

He was off by 100 dollars on the 3090 price or I was lol. It according to Jensen is it will be 2 to 4 times faster then the 3090 ti and has over 2 times the number of transistors.

i think i'm going to push my rig-update hopes back to early 2023. Hopefully the DDR5 RAM will be better then performance and price wise, and the video cards will be better priced (eyeing a 4080). right now I'm thinking a ryzen 7900 is the chip I want.

Correct answer this thing is a 90 teraflop supercomputer for your desktop even the 3080 is a monster up to 4 times the performance of a 3080ti.

Not really, especially at the "lower" level (compare the RX 6600 to the RTX 3060, for example).
And it's gonna take me awhile to forgive Nvidia for running off EVGA entirely out of the GPU business.

I don't thing the price is that bad for what your getting in performance in both the 4080 and the 4090 with these insane numbers. I recently bought a 3090ti for 1399 then a another one for 1000 bucks and this thing is faster then both of them combined. The 4080 seems like a win though it costs 200 more then the 3080.
 
what do you guys make of the evga exit from the video card industry. they say working with nvidia isn't profitable, they cite disrespectful treatment from nvidia, but they don't seem to be open to working with intel or amd at the moment. they claim that anything 3080 or better is a loss in profit

Up to 4x or whatever doesnt mean its true. Ill wait for testing but I doubt it but then again the power draw is insane too.

Yes 4x is on the high side but they moved from 8nm to 4nm while using the same size die so a substantial increase in number of transistors. It is not unreasonable to say it is 2 or 3 times the performance of the RTX 3090ti depending on the application or game.




Twice as fast as the RTX 3090ti in flight simulator.

For the last 12 months the equivalent AMD cards in the sub $600 price tier have been like 20-30% cheaper than the nvidia counterpart

For example, the 6600 (which offers almost 3060 level performance) has actually been cheaper than the 3050 which is embarrassing. 6600XT (which is faster than the 3060) has been $60-100 cheaper. The 6700XT has routinely trended $70-100 cheaper than the 3060 Ti despite being slightly faster

What makes it worst is every 3 weeks for the last 2 months Nvidia has been bragging about "aggressive price cuts" yet here we are in almost October and the 3050, 3060, 3060Ti, and 3070 are literally all still listed over MSRP........ (go into any brick n motar store and the shelves are full, they can't sell these cards at current prices)

Aggressive price cuts my ass, all they did was lower the 3080, 3080Ti, and 3090 prices which they technically didn't really lower it because those cards were originally sold at an inflated fake MSRP to begin with (lowering a 2 year old card down to what has been historically the MSRP price isn't really a true price cut if were being honest)

With these prices going forward. Looks like i'll always be 1.5 generations behind.

$750 i spent for my 1080ti in 2017 was a one time purchase. Promised myself to never spend that much for a GPU again.

Yeah Microcenter here is selling a 3050 for...$380. :confused: Looks like nobody is biting since they have 25+ in stock.
Meanwhile they're selling a 6600 (basically a 3060) for $100 cheaper and only have 1 in stock. And even the 6600 XT is cheaper too.
