Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

Guys my new monitor arrives tomorrow! I'm so excited!! Here's hoping the issue I've been experiencing with G-Sync on a non-G-Sync monitor goes away. @Madmick @jefferz do you guys have any thoughts on the aforementioned issue? The past two NVidia driver updates, I install them and the screen goes black. I have to do a hard shutdown but when I start up, the driver is installed and everything is fine.
A black screen? No, I've never experienced anything like that. My friend ran into the common flickering issue on certain games on his monitor. I've yet to encounter any myself (and I'm on a Freesync monitor that isn't certified with an NVIDIA card).

But if all it requires is a restart following a driver update for everything to work fine, that's not what I would classify as a severe problem. If you had to recalibrate your VRR settings after every restart, then that would be a bitch. That's what some users have experienced.

Only thing I can think of to try is to run DDU before you install the next nVidia driver. DDU can fix all sorts of wonky things.

Its typical for the display to flicker when a new GPU driver is installed/initialized. Now it not typical for the system requiring a hard reset after such installation/initialization. He should run GPU-Z to see if the card is reporting properly to the OS, undo all unsupported display settings he has enabled(why is he even doing this?) and upgrade the drivers again to see if this issue repeats.

If it does repeat, only thing he can do is flash the firmware of the GPU. Now im not 100% if this will void his warranty. So it may be best to just issue an RMA.

I'm on the verge of giving in and buying a prebuilt PC with either a GTX 3070 or 3080 (leaning towards the 3080, but still not 100% decided).

Would it make the most sense to just wait until Intel's Alder Lake arrives, or does it even really matter? It seems Ryzen and Intel CPUs are already tremendously powerful, but perhaps I'd benefit by waiting for the new stuff to arrive.

I'd ideally like to upgrade by the end of the year, mostly so that I can play BF 2042, Age of Empires IV, and even Forza Horizon 5 at 1440p/ultra/60 FPS without my PC breaking a sweat. I'd especially hate to miss out on 2042. As disappointing as the beta was, it's a game I still want to experience in all its glory. In the beta I was struggling to get a solid 60 FPS even at 1080p/Low preset.

Right now all I have is a Xeon 1231v3 CPU (basically an i7-4770) and GTX 1070. I originally built this thing over 5 years ago and I'm in dire need of an upgrade (the CPU especially, but the 1070 is really starting to show its age as well). Hell, my motherboard is so old it doesn't even have TPM 2.0 so I can't even upgrade to Windows 11 when the time comes.

Just wanted to update--- @Madmick
My new monitor has solved all the "black screen" issues I was encountering with Witcher 3 and really everything.
Fucking GSync. Fucking DLSS. God DAMN is it nice to be a gamer

Another crazy Nvidia story or rumor Nvidia halted production of their 30xx cards due to the prices failing rapidly on the market due to cryptocurrencies crash. Is that nice of Nvidia worrying about consumers. Lol as someone posted those CEO leather jackets don't pay for themselves.

I'm not trying to be a dick but you need to stop with these bullshit stories. This is the type of stupid crap you’d see over at r/AMD. Nvidia has a license to print money at this point. They could produce 750ti's right now and sell out the entire stock in less than a day.
There would be zero reason for them to stop selling gpu’s.

Not trying to be a dick? Seriously you obviously don't understand supply demand curves

"In microeconomics, supply and demand is an economic model of price determination in a market. It postulates that, holding all else equal, in a competitive market, the unit price for a particular good, or other traded item such as labor or liquid financial assets, will vary until it settles at a point where the quantity demanded (at the current price) will equal the quantity supplied (at the current price), resulting in an economic equilibrium for price and quantity transacted. It forms the theoretical basis of modern economics."

Business 101 you limit supplies of an item it raises price by also helping to increase margins an given retailers the ability to create higher demand curves.

ie Sell crap people don't want see Russia manipulation of Dimond prices an OPEC oil.

Nice copy paste you have there.

That's still $270 above MSRP.
That's due to the Nvidia effect on prices and I actually bought it from a retailers "Best Buy" just picked it up last one in stock. Yes it costs more but not 850 to 1000 on ebay.

Nice copy paste you have there.
I was too lazy to type it in and people will question my information so just cut and pasted most of it.

lolz @ this "rumor."

edit: lolz, it's areej. he's notorious for regurgitating shit. at least he usually cites the sources he's regurgitating now, after we bitched about him not doing that for about a year...

Dude, wtf are you talking about? Bitcoin is at an all-time high (unfortunately).

Also, NVIDIA would never halt production this early. The average pricing of NVIDIA cards out there is over double their MSRP. I assure you, they are desperately scrambling to do the opposite of halting production, and will continue to do so until supply exceeds demand from their partners.

Here the 3060 I bought today an prices will go up because of supply demand issues. People will long for the days of 600 dollar low end GPU's. Nvidia an AMD seen the reactions by consumers with previous releases. I am sure greed an people's willingness to spend premium prices are driving it. Cryptocurrency is hitting the skids in almost every alt coin except Bitcoin. Nvidia sees a day where miners are not spending big bucks to secure cards now because TSMC has 25 percent of the world’s chips others will follow.

are you fucking insane or just retarded?

you've gone off the rails recently with all the crazy post spam and fud nonsense. why the fuck would nvidia willingly stop making money? this shit's beyond tin foil. and crypto down? WAT?

and you don't even pay attention to the posts here, either. the next gen (zen 4) of amd chips will be loaded with APUs with rdna 2. that alone should alleviate shit by providing halfway viable (or hopefully, legit viable) gaming without a dgpu. the current APUs are only running vega.

and that's even playing devil's advocate that intel would also want to play the same game regarding their dgpus.

You're doing the equivalent of talking just to hear yourself talk.

In an ideal world would be best to wait to see the type of performance gains theyll have to price. Since AMD/Intel are using a new socket type moving forward.
