Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

I can see the argument for buying a much cheaper phone like the Pixel 3a or Oneplus 6T along with a Nintendo Switch, and still coming out ahead on cost, but otherwise, that isn't the niche, here, and it's apples to oranges with those phones. The Nintendo Switch can't make cellular calls. The Snapdragon 855 chipset in the new ROG Phone II is only available in other handsets that scratch the $1K barrier. This chipset happens to be ~3x as strong the Tegra X1 (in the Nintendo Switch & NVIDIA Shield) on the CPU side, and 50% stronger on the GPU side, so that Tegra X1 is finally beginning to show its age.

As far as size goes it's not insanely large compared to modern phones, and to call it "tablet-sized" is plainly ignorant.

Not sure if anyone else is getting it in their feeds, but the ultimate gaming machine has been built. Tried to post it yesterday, but the site was down. It isn't intended as a real product for the market:

yeah, your own comparison is 6.73" vs 8" in height. which... is still a silly attempt to argue.

there are many tablets that are 7" - making it a whole .27" difference. ie: 6.8mm ie: 3.8% smaller. this is you, so i'm not surprised that you'd play semantics and say it's not "tablet-sized," though.

and btw, this is bigger than most (all?) phablets. so... madmick gonna madmick.

Ignorance on parade, folks.

ROFL, oh, the range run smaller than that. The deeper truth that eludes you, due to your predictable and easily baited ignorance, is the difference in height vs. screen size.

You're quoting screen size, not dimensions. See that iPad Mini I linked above? The one with the 8" height? It actually carries a 7.9" screen. You just compared the height dimension of the Asus ROG Phone II to the screen diagonal of the 7" class of tablets. Why? Because you don't actually know what you're talking about. There's this thing called bezels. The screen size of the Asus ROG Phone II is actually 6.59", not 6.73", but you didn't know that. It also means it's incontrovertibly inaccurate to calculate the difference in height by subtraction of screen size.

th

There are other pertinent facts well know to those with actual acquired knowledge, such as the fact the smaller Android tablets have all shifted towards the 8" paradigm, the fact the iPad Mini above outsells all of them combined, or the fact that height of a phone versus tablets isn't nearly as significant as the width when considering how comfortable it is to hold & operate in one hand, but I think I'll leave the forum with that.

Rob gonna Rob.

lolwut? i compared height to height.

btw, my gf has a 7" hauwei tablet. get this, the HEIGHT is 7" and the HEIGHT of the silly phone is 6.73"

derp less. btw, genius - if i did compare phone height to tablet diagonal... it would mean the giant phone's even bigger (in comparison). DERP!

For the people that live near MicroCenter, how are their flash drives? They're not on sale but they're the cheapest "known" brand on Amazon, $23 for a 256gb and $13 for a 128gb.

lolwut? i compared height to height.
No, you compared screen size to height. There's no coming back from this. "Many" doesn't refer to two.

You misspelled Huawei, but I'm curious. Which one is it? Because Huawei has never made a bezel-less 7" tablet. Just FYI.

ROFL, no. No it wouldn't. You don't even know how screen sizes are measured in the electronic world. Go look at the Wiki you linked again. Pay attention to the relationship between tablet height and tablet screen size. See how the height almost always exceeds the screen size?

This isn't exclusive to phones and tablets, btw. This is how PC Monitors are measured. It's how TVs are measured.

Holy shit, this is gold. You're exposing the most tremendous ignorance to basic facts. You just showed everyone what a neophyte you are to all this stuff.

no, i compared HEIGHT to HEIGHT. and two? wtf? do your eyes not work? there are 3 listed there (and i mentioned one not on the list) at 7" and a bunch more at 190mm... what quantity does the mighty madmick deem to be "many?"

is it your eyeballs that don't work or can you just not math? "almost always?" 9 on the list have a greater screen size and a few are equal. wtf, man. i know you have a raging hateboner for me, but ffs - this is some pitiful grasping for straws.

ffs, try to play semantics and fail. insist i was comparing height to a diagonal (despite linking a list that... get this, mentioned height!). tries to semantic around "many" - and then claims "almost always?" lolz!

yeah... IT'S A PHONE. no one's putting TVs and monitors in their pockets. holy obtuse. trying sooooo hard to be right that you're backpedaling to comparing a phone to TV. it's like actual size matters with phones, or something?!

There are two listed there at 7" Height. There's no wiggling out of this. You intended to comment on the 7" class of tablets (described by screen size, not height). That was one of two primary classes of tablet at the outset of the devices. There was the 9.7"-10.1" class, and the 7" class. There are hundreds of tablets out there, but the 7" class is regarded as the cutoff for the "tablet" class, and this is defined by screen size. That is apparent even at mobile device benchmarks like GFX Bench. Nevertheless, the 7" class has mostly disappeared from the marketplace.

Nobody refers to tablets by their height; especially one as obscure as a 7" height.

In fact, bring me every 7.00" height tablet model you can find; on the button because you were very specific (0.27"). You calculated this. BTW, you'll have to start with zero. The Dell Streak 7 is actually 7.87" tall, and the Viewpad Viewsonic 7 is 7.05" tall. The latter would be an 0.32" difference in height unless you can't do elementary subtraction.

7" screen. 7.05" height (179mm).

Yes, "almost always". Because of bezels. Notice anything about the tablets where the screen size outsizes the height from your link? None of them has a screen size below 9". Android tablets are in the 16:9 aspect ratio, so there is always a ratio of 87.1% between the height and the screen size. For this reason, the 7" class of tablets only has an 0.9" buffer compared to a 1.3" buffer for the 10.1" tablets. You compared screen size to height because you aren't aware of how screen sizes are measured, nor of bezels and market reality. You scrambled after being informed of these truths, and in your ignorance wrongly assumed it was a matter of opposite to hypotenuse.

In the case of the specific Asus ROG Phone II the screen size has a deficit against the height (6.59" vs. 6.73"). Yet you didn't compare it screen size to the screen size of tablets above. You chose the phone's height, its greater number, to measure against the screen size of tablets, which in that class is the lesser number. This stuff is all second nature to me because of all the years of scrupling screen-to-body ratios.

Compare its dimensions to the bestselling 7" tablets of all time:
  • Asus ROG Phone II
    • Height = 6.73"
    • Width = 3.06"
    • Area = 20.59"
  • Nexus 7 (2013)
    • Height = 7.87" (+1.14", +16.9%)
    • Width = 4.49" (+1.43"; +46.7%)
    • Area = 35.3" sq (+71.8%)
  • Kindle Fire aka Fire aka Fire 7
    • Height = 7.56" (+0.83"; +12.3%)
    • Width = 4.53" (+1.47"; +48.0%)
    • Area = 34.2" sq (+66.4%)

lolz @ trying this hard and telling me the huawei isn't 7" because it's... 7.05"? yeah, THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING!

lolz @ trying to spin this hard. i guess the 7.05" tablets you just mentioned don't exist to be compared, right?

fucking delusional.

Yes, "almost always"

math and facts and definitions disagree. madmick mad.

It changes the only thing that matters.
there are many tablets that are 7" - making it a whole .27" difference. ie: 6.8mm ie: 3.8% smaller.

Remember, there are "many" tablets with a 7.00" height. Yet you haven't provided one.

FYI the last time your cheerleader pulled this pom-pom routine he ate shit wrongly believing that Epic didn't intend to rival Steam:

lolz @ backpedaling/evading/spinning shit this hard to play semantics on a ONE MILLIMETER (.05") difference. a difference so tiny that the wiki rounded it out. as if this changes things. wow, one millimeter! yeah, the phone's definitely not even close now! hahahaha

also, that was @KaNesDeath - YOU KNOW, A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PERSON.

Yes, and you didn't know any better than Wiki, but compared non-rounded results to rounded results. You said there are "many" 7.0-tall tablets, but you have only cited two 7.05" obscure models that were marginal sellers. You have no concept of tablet sizes to inveigh that against the phone.

I referred to the poster putting on pom-poms for Kane. Kane was wrong in that argument just as you're wrong, here. This poster has actually received an infraction for abusing the report button against me due to so many trivial reports. If you want to talk about the ultimate perma-rustling...that's it.
