Why the upgrade? Is it strictly gaming. The 9700k is hands down top 3 best gaming cpu that's for sure in some tests it beats out the 9900k and it has very solid overclocking.
It's strictly gaming. I did it purely for enthusiast reasons. I bought the i5 knowing it was all I needed when overclocked, but everything else in my new PC is top of the line so I figured I'd upgrade the CPU lol.

You say i7 but the 9900k is i9.
I bought an i7 9700K. I didn't buy an i9 because it has similar benchmarks to the i7 in gaming and runs really hot. I have a mini itx case so I don't think I'd be able to cool it properly. I probably would've stuck with the i7 regardless, even if I had a bigger case and more cooling options. I guess I'll just have to live with the fact that I'm an i7 peasant.

I have a case that's really slim even by itx standards. My best option is a 120mm closed loop water cooling solution. My i5 and new i7 peak at around 75C during CPU intensive games, no matter how I play with fan and radiator settings, or thermal paste and it's application. I didn't want to get an i9 and end up not being able to get it cool enough and have to go through the trouble of returning it. It might have worked, but I didn't want to chance it. The similar performance to the i7 also sealed the deal for me.

But the difference between the 9600k and 9700k is slim too.
I wanted to step up for enthusiast reasons, but I had to be reasonable. Also, the difference gaming-wise between the i5 and i7 is more significant than the difference between the i7 and i9.

It's not though. Both are under 10%.
Again, I mostly did it for enthusiast reasons. I wanted to step up to the most powerful processor I could get within reason. My decision wasn't purely motivated by logic and functional performance increase. It's like having a 600hp car and you mod it to have 650hp. Not a giant jump, but enjoyable and worth it for a car enthusiast.

Sounds like you've got headroom for overclocking.
RX 3700x has the OC ability of a carrot from the reviews.

So my ROG Strix x570-e Mobo and my Ryzen 3700x appear to be effected by the WHEA BSOD error associated with the new release. I'm using a 1080ti and Nvidia seems to be the most commonly reported incidence of it happening, a few Radeon's are getting it to, apparently NVIDIA are working on a fix, but at this point in time I haven't see the BSOD happen so I can't be sure if I get that, I usually just come back to my computer having been restarted.
I did a fresh install of windows when I installed the MOBO and CPU so I'm fairly certain It is from the WHEA error. I originally thought it was my Ram OC but it has happened with the ram running at stock speeds.
So I guess I just wait for the Nvidia patch.
EDIT: After doing some more research it also appears to be linked to RAM speeds. A lot of people are finding ram over 3000mhz is causing crashes and having to set theirs lower.
Who doesn't love the teething issues that come with new hardware lmao

the AMD reddit is slowly starting to get a roll on with the posts, but so far its every man and their dog saying "Its the ram turn it down" "its the PCI x16 put your GPU in x8" "Its the Area 51 aliens" Nvidia said "We think its us" AMD says "...." *Silently chuckling*
I was more than willing to give AMD another go, so I took the chance, In a few weeks hopefully everything has been fixed. But I agree if Intel did this they'd be eviscerated by the public.
I've included a photo of my temps and voltages, it would appear I've avoided the voltage issues they're having.

Sorry to hear about this.
From what i read last week the cause primarily(?) surrounded ASUS motherboards not having the latest bios version installed. Even a user on the CSGO subreddit posted a issue with the game not launching like Destiny2. He had a 3600 and a Asus motherboard. Upgrading his bios didnt work.
