Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

Apple screwing over gamers everywhere due the fact that they are the biggest fish in the pond by a wide margin. It turns out that both AMD and Nvidia mostly AMD is taking a huge hit from Apple tying up already reduce supplies. When you buy over a 100 billion in chips a sizable portion is for their processor people bend over backwards for them. TSMC mostly is telling customers expect delays as they continue to fill orders. They also said most of 2020 already booked. This is affecting everything including AMD server chips that is music to Intel's ears.

Whenever Apple releases a new cell phone, they buy up something crazy like 20% of worldwide RAM production.

AMD working on a single board computer based on SFF design Mini-ITX form factor with their most powerful GPU potentially "Little data available about it". They seen a huge demand by PC builders at building console game sized but far more powerful then consoles gaming PC's. This on top of an 8 core Zen 2 CPU and up to 32 or 64 gigs of RAM and run off of a 500 watt power supple that can fit in a SFF case.

Just to give you an idea of what's involved.

Arctic Cooling released a new AIO cooler product line, the Liquid Freezer 2. They built their own pump instead of using an Asetek design, it has no RGB, single 4 pin hookup, and has a built in 40mm fan to blow on your vram. The new line covers all the normal sizes from 120mm to 360mm except for 140mm. It appears they're all 38mm thick radiators which will prevent it from being top mounted in some cases. Pricing has only been revealed in the UK for now starting at 50£ ($63 USD) and going up 10£ for each size.

My wife bought this monitor last week at microcenter for that same price and it's a great monitor. Very good balance of viewing angle, resolution, colors, and refresh rate, especially for the price.

For that price it looks like it's a solid panel. Have you tried Gsync on it yet?

Fucking finally. Their coolers are excellent, but those teal-brown colors...ugh.

You used to have no choice other than Noctua if you wanted the best. Now that other companies have caught up, is this too little too late? Only time will tell.

She has freesync enabled (vega 11 on the 2400G) but probably won't be playing games on it. She's just using the computer for her IT job.

Can't dodge sales tax with Google Express (unless of course you're in a state that doesn't charge it), because they charge it even if the vendor doesn't, but they're running a spectacular sale on the 3700X now. Considering this processor is just several months old, and trails only the R5-3600 as the most in-demand processor on the market, I'm damn surprised they're rolling out a sale this steep before Black Friday. AMD literally can't fabricate them fast enough to sell at $329 a pop, so this is a gift:

@IloveTHIS
No point in overclocking the R7-3700X, but I would heartily advise this CPU over the i5-9400F, i5-9600K, or i7-9700K.

No point in overclocking the R7-3700X,

If one does intend to OC. The AMD chipset boards require an additional 4-pin power connector. Something that was phased out years ago. Meaning the modular PSU i bought years ago didnt even include it in the packaging.

Also, welcome back : )

A new Nvidia Shield Pro appeared briefly on Amazon.

anyone know how to navigate Toms Hardware to find a GPU comparison tool?

I want to compare my 4 year old Geforce GTX 1070 8Gb to modern $500 cards.

All im finding is current charts with no way to add a specific old one in the mix.

here's a TechSpot article comparing the 2070 super with the 1070 in the charts. TechSpot is Hardware Unboxed's written website.

Thanks, I'm surprised my card is still in the top 20 of those charts. It shows playable framerates already with maybe 30% better for a $700 upgrade.

Looks like I'll wait a year or two more

Edit: I'm gonna miss out on ray tracing for a while though
