Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

These 2 chips at MSRP would have been great if released in 2022 but for 2024/2025 it's meh.

This is all you need to say. Everything else just comes across as obfuscation.
The 9700X was never the CPU our resident Sherdogger was considering. That isn't obfuscation. It's stating the obvious about relevance.

I got some stands for my PS5. Some guy makes the makes them and sells them on eBay for 10 bucks. They're nice. I also got a home theater stereo surround system coming in today and I got a new shelf thing for my TV and stereo and PS5 to go in. I also got a 4TB hard drive I ordered. That will be coming in the mail someday.

Nice. Congrats.

Well, that's disappointing. I was looking to upgrade to a 9900x

Not everyone on the internet who interacts with you has a personal vendetta. Nor is it a reference to a recommendation you made some time prior. We can all sit here and have a mild laugh over Noctuas recent release. Why cant we do the same with the 9000 series?

On a side note Hardware Unboxed game benchmarks showed something interesting with the 9700X. Its CS2's performance was phenomenal!

I wonder if Kanesdeath still works at Intel or if he was laid off.

Bitfenix is offering an AIO with a clear top on the cpu block for that custom loop look. Prices on Amazon are $70 for the 240mm version and $90 for the 360mm version available in black or white.

You're the one who sought to nitpick this uncontroversial statement:
Only the 7800X3D is faster than the 9700X.
In certain gaming benchmarks the 5700X3D, 5800X3D and 7700X beat the 9700X. Sure the reduced power consumption is a nice talking point. Along with launching price matching six month post launch adjusted pricing of 5000 and 7000 series.
So you have no right to be dismayed when your nitpicking is refuted with nitpicking in kind.

Dude, it's not worth it. By the time you get done, the goalposts will be in China because they've been moved so much.

I don't remember which reviewer said it, but this is the same as Intel's 11th gen.

That's what I got. I really like those PS5 stands. They fit perfect on there too. I got the 800 watt stereo for music and games.

Looks Like my rig is out of date and I am unable to play new release games coming out. I was told I need a full rebuild , looking for a second opinion ? trying to keep playing with out laying out all the money i dont have.

  1. What are the specs of your current rig?
  2. What are the kinds of new games you want to play? Is there one game in particular you play above all others?
  3. If it is the right move to build, what is the budget you want to stay under?

*Edit*
My bad, I didn't see the post above this one I quoted, I'll get back to this later tonight.

Looks like your rig is about 6 years old. Unfortunately, you heard right that you'll need a full new build if you want to do anything more than a new graphics card. Intel switched away from Socket LGA1151 five generations ago and there is no upgrade path with that motherboard.

If you are looking for any useful suggestions on a new build then you'll need to give a budget and what games you're looking to play (and, if possible, at what resolution and FPS target). I'm sure somebody will jump on it and get you an example system pretty quick.

Thanks @JBSchroeds for the info.

I dont need any top level 1440 , 4k stuff just play the newer games that come out. Next release i am looking at is Space marine 2, but i am under recommend for that. My main goal is to keep being able to play games as long as possible into the future. Hoping to find a more budget price but if that wont last long I can go higher on price.

To further what @Madmick asked, are you comfortable building it yourself, or are you going to want to buy a prebuilt?
