I’m seriously about to go buy one depending on which mobo’s are on the list put the r5 in my machine and put my r3 in a thrown down rig for an extra, give to my mom or sell.

This shiz is crazy.

I should buy every damn one they have and build a bunch of super cheap gaming rigs to sell.

Yeah, RAM prices are spectacular, so it's a perfect storm when you see CPU/MoBos like that. Rakuten had 2x8GB ADATA Gammix DDR4-3000 CAS16 sticks via Fry's for $69.69 a few days ago with a code. If you signed up a fresh Rakuten account you scored a $10 Rakuten Cash card taking that down to $59.69.

It briefly dropped from $299.99 to $279.99 before going out of stock on the 21st. Not sure if they plan to do that, again.

• Biggest caveat is whether it needs a BIOS update for the 2nd gen Ryzen CPU, but it's rare for a combo to ship unless parts are compatible, meaning the factory updated the BIOS, especially since this is fresh stock resupplied nearly a year after the launch of Ryzen 2000
  
• The motherboard is nothing special, not ideal for aggressive overclocking or anything, more like an ATX-sized B350 motherboard, but those have a minimum cost of $90 if not on sale/rebate. Carries a $100 value.
  
• NVMe drive. Blows any of the SATA SSDs out of the water including the Samsung 860 Pro. m.2 will disable 2 of the SATA III ports on the motherboard, but that leaves you with 4. No peer costs less, right now. Carries a $47 value.

So taking the thrift shopper perspective when it dropped that extra $20 one would be paying effectively $279.99 - $90 - $47 = $143 for the R7-2700.

That's pretty baller.

Biggest advantage over the A320 boards is that one won't be restricted to the stock clocks for the R5-1600. Besides that is has 4xRAM slots, not 2. It also has an extra PCIe slot (probably most useful for a WiFi/Bluetooth combo card since these don't come with WiFi), 2xChassis Fan headers instead of 1, a USB-C slot in the rear as well as a single Gen2 port, and it supports RGB. Finally, note that Gigabyte A320's m.2 slot isn't operational with the R5-1600, so the Asus is preferable if desiring an m.2 SSD should one go shoestring:

There are people that have been doing it, mainly on older consoles, but it takes an extreme amount of work , knowledge, and writing some of your own code.

It’s definitely not plug and play, but some very interesting videos can be found on it if you go down the rabbit hole far enough.

They used to be I don’t know about now, so yes it might require extreme soldering skill and possibly building your own board as well, as one video I watched the dude did.

Only meaningful upgrade for the consoles is the replaceable hard drive in the PS4 which you can upgrade with an internal 2.5" SATA SSD. You can buy external SSDs for the Xbox, but that's sort of pointless because you can't replace the internal mechanical HDD that the OS runs on. You can also replace the factory drive with an SSD, but it's more of a hassle with the Xbox One.

SSDs are a more useful upgrade to PC owners who aren't waiting on a weak CPU to build the game world during loads, but it's a nice step up for responsiveness.

Indeed, but this amounts to the maintenance of one's own product. At the point that you are are both electrically re-engineering the hardware and writing code for the transformed product you are engaging in an educational passion project where the project itself becomes the purpose. The consoles aren't designed to run with upgrades to the CPU, GPU, or RAM as Microsoft and Sony intended them.

I’ve considered a td build numerous times, and the 1920 has been on sale from time to time in various places around there already as theb1900 was before it.

If I streamed it would be an easy choice, but I’ve always settled on the 1700 r7 being “enough” cpu for me, and have missed some stupid sales on account of “thinking it over”

Soon, I think we’ll see 2700 sales reaching 1700 sales levels and that’s kinda been my holding point for now. And the fact that the 1600 is now so cheap I might buy one just because.
Buddy of mine just asked me to upgrade his old hp, with 775 socket with new cpu and ram and ssd, I’m trying to talk him into just ganking all the internals and putting an r5 1600 in it. With today’s prices it’s most likely cheaper, and way way way the fuck faster anyways.
