Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

It's been pretty obvious for a while now that LTT shouldn't be trusted for any sort of serious content, and should only be taken as entertainment.

To play devils advocate its a culmination of his initial retirement announcement, massive expansion of his media group and acquiring with trying to hold onto highly sought after department heads.

Think Linus just killed the company.

If its true that Steve really didn't reach out before publishing...that's a bad look for him. He's pretty hardcore about the 'I'm a journalist, we do journalism, we're serious people doing serious work and no I didn't just huff my own fart' thing, and to not contact LLT before posting an extended hit piece really undermines that stance. Not that that invalidates any of the criticisms, but reaching out for comment is journalistic SOP.

As for LLT, I'm not sure how much of my eyeball time they'll be getting anymore. The videos really have been feeling rushed and the content has suffered for it. I liked that they had stuff that wasn't just a glorified powerpoint presentation, but I feel its been getting stale for the same reason I stopped watching Top Gear many years ago: you can only watch big dumb idiot do big dumb idiot things before it all blends together. And when the non-idiot content is suffering from major errors, maybe there's no reason to tune in.

Oh, and that Billet Labs excuse is garbage. They should sue.

Billet labs responded saying Linus didn't agree to reimburse them until after Gamer Nexus posted their video. Linus responded to the email telling them they would reimburse them and then made this post.

Just reimbursing them for the prototype isn’t enough. How many millions of people watched that video? The damage done is irreversible.
And the “we want them to make something they can bring to market” is real bullshit. That’s not his job to force companies to make things. He doesn’t own Billet Labs.
There’s nothing wrong with a company making a niche product where they only sell maybe 10 things. The company is 2 guys, they aren’t Cooler Master.
And flat out refusing to retest it properly is mind-blowing. Tuck your tail, take the old video down, retest it, and apologize.

I still don't believe that they don't have any 3090's in the building. But let's give them the benefit of the doubt in this scenario. They're LTT, talk to one of the GPU manufacturers to get one. Buy one on eBay, Kajiji, or Facebook Marketplace. Shit, even an ad on social media saying they need to borrow one from someone in the local area for a video, and they'll throw in some swag like a hoodie, to borrow the card. They'd have people lining up to lend them their card.
It feels like Linus was trying to trash the product/company intentionally.

For me, the backpack warranty is what made me throw in the towel.
The community did exactly what Linus has been telling his community to do for years when a company offers a shitty deal to consumers. An "I got you" warranty isn't good enough. When the community called him out on it, he got all butt hurt about it.

edit: I missed the part where Billet supplied LTT with a 3090ti to use, and they lost it. Holy shit....

And Steve had no obligation to contact Linus privately since the latter brought up the former first on the WON podcast last week.

Tech Jesus posted another video in response to Linus's forum post. Only about 12 minutes this time. He's very disappointed, to say the least.

Billet Labs even sent them a 3090 Ti to test with it (which LTT still hasn't sent back over two months later).

If you're going to make an I'm sorry video, make it feel genuine, not just a canned response read off a teleprompter.
And throwing in a LTTstore.com mention, ffs. Come on. And they monetized the video....

Madison has a pretty long twitter thread about her treatment at LTT. If what she says is true, oh boy.

The original video is still up too. So full of shit.

Yvonnes response was genuine. She shouldve been the lead and possible only response in the video. Problem here is Linus initial post has the community wanting blood. So no matter what they do will be nitpicked at unreasonable levels moving forward.

Recall five'sh plus years ago Linus talking to Luke on the wan show about having a verbal fight with Yvonne. She was upset with the amount of mistakes happening at LTT/LMG that Linus constantly let slide.

I bet he’s wishing he would have taken that 9 figure offer now.

That's the part that doesn't make sense, if you're not interested in cashing out, why keep working at an insane pace like you're trying to impress potential buyers

Yvonne being head of HR is gonna look really bad here. Ltt seems to be running into the same let the founder do what they want issue that plagued startups the past few years and gets you weworks
