Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

@Jack Reacheround
Prebuilts are absolutely acceptable to buy, with high quality parts, if you select the appropriate product. To say otherwise is ignorant. It's not 2015, anymore.
Except all those videos tearing down off the shelf prebuilts gamers Nexus was doing were from like a year or two ago. I don’t remember an Omen specifically being done but nearly every off the shelf PC they did had some serious issues.

The guy also asked for a PC that gets better performance than a console and a 1660 super is not going to do that but hey waste his money I guess

"Serious issues" Steve is a godsend, but he freaks out about glue, FFS. This chicken littling about prebuilts needs a walker. Steve has gone out of his way to praise Skytech and Maingear, for example. There are always exceptions, even among the more reliable brands, but disparaging all prebuilts based on their worst examples is no different than someone who warned curious gamers off building simply because there remains poorly constructed PSUs and cases available to buy. The market isn't defined by its worst face.
They’ll do stuff like pack in shitty motherboards, shitty power supplies, poorly constructed cases, cheap fans, etc. pretty much any part that isn’t listed on the box is likely to be something poor in quality.
<TrumpWrong1>

In the specific post I quoted he was merely asking if there was good deals on gaming computers that would yield 60fps on newish games. Framerates vary drastically depending on the game. The 1660 Super is still presently recommended as the entry point for budget 1080p gaming across numerous respected websites, as it remains a decent card, and I cited that prebuilt to give an example of a starting point. After all, he never specified that he was on a 9th Gen flagship console (PS5 or Xbox Series X). The discussion hadn't progressed to that point.

And this is where you break down into silly tap dancing instead of just admitting maybe you were wrong.

@Jack Reacheround dont buy a computer with a 1660 and 8 gb of ram unless you want something that will perform worse than a PS5 for more money. If you are going to buy a prebuilt order a custom made one at least as the off the shelf ones were flat out exposed. The videos were shared in this thread even. No idea why Madmick can’t accept this reality.

These videos are a year old. A year fucking old you’re acting like this is ancient history. You can dismiss them about glue but they found all kinds of ones with screws rattling around freely and major issues moving heat out. You’re in make believe land and you’re giving bad advice.

Says the guy who asserted prebuilds have, and I'm quoting directly, "shitty motherboards, shitty power supplies, poorly constructed cases, cheap fans, etc. pretty much any part that isn’t listed on the box is likely to be something poor in quality."

Be quiet. You don't know what you're talking about. Full stop.

I did say that and I do know what I’m talking about. I mean the videos exist to prove it. Worse, I think you know better too but don’t want to look wrong on your little corner of the internet.

Except they don't. By all means, take the bestseller gaming PC prebuilts from Best Buy or Amazon. Better yet, take those HP Omens I linked. Enumerate those which have shitty motherboards, power supplies, cases, cheap fans, and every other part not listed on the box. Explain what makes them "shitty".

You have the floor.

A $1400 computer they bought from HP. A $1400 computer. I already see how you’re trying to lazily set up your rebuttal because you already looked and saw he hadn’t exposed an Omen specifically, but let’s go ahead and shut that shit down right now. They aren’t putting more effort into their cheaper computers.

I clicked on your links that take me to Best Buy. They don’t share any real information about those parts. I’m not going to dig any further into those specific models because I already know it’s a game they play with most of these off the shelf computers.

How about this: you look it up and convince me all those things are quality parts they aren’t skimming on to up their profit margin. You do it because you’re the one on here telling someone to blow money on it.

Also nice dodge not addressing that killer 1660 recommendation.

The Pavilion series isn't the Omen series. No, the reason I recommended the Omens was because I had personally looked into them well before this exchange, unlike you, who knows nothing about the prebuilt market beyond a few headlines you'd seen in your feed for GN videos you never watched. I've seen them both in reviews, and I've poured over the specific parts the computers have put into their builds. In fact, I've personally listed past models in these very threads detailing specific parts that "aren't listed on the box". The rest of the market appears educated on this. Those Omens currently line the top of Best Buy's bestselling units. You're the uninformed one stuck in 2015.

So you're not going to substantiate your claim? The burden is on you, not me, to do this. You're the one who has asserted those computers have shit parts. I've repudiated this, and challenged you to substantiate that claim. Are you incapable of completing this simple task? Because I sincerely suspect that you are. I think you need your hand held. I don't think you possess the knowledge or the ability to critically evaluate specific prebuilts yourself. I don't think you ever have, and that's why you're blathering this ignorance. If you can't Google a YouTube video to regurgitate, then you're helplessly lost. That's why you negatively blanket the whole market of prebuilts based on an individual model's review irrelevant to almost all of that market. After all, there are positive reviews of prebuilts by Gamers Nexus, so an individual review means little in and of itself.

I can, of course, always supply the necessary info. If you're forced to admit that you can't supply it yourself. It's easily obtainable.

This is just pathetic. I don’t know if you noticed but I already headed off your predictable spin attempt. When have you personally put hands on one of these computers? Because if you haven’t then you have no way of knowing if it does it does not share similar issues. And there are plenty of them, and it’s not just glue.

2015. Look at the fucking date of the video and say 2015 again. Also, I never had a thing against prebuilts really until he started doing those videos.

Last thing, not sure what you’re trying to say because I very obviously could waste my time trying to figure out what motherboard and psu and cpu cooler are in that thing, but I’m not interested. If the company is willing to sell a 1400 computer like that, they’re willing to sell an $800 one like that too. You’re the one that’s gotta convince someone to waste their money on a pos you picked out. With a 1660 ffs

Funny, I would have classified "spin" as attempting to portray me as cherry-picking the Omen series when I shared those links long before you came in to regurgitate your ignorance typical of the greenest forumgoers on Reddit, for example.

I challenged you to specify the Omen parts, and why they're bad. You're dodging pretty hard. Simple matter in contention: a matter you raised.

Concession accepted.

You’re dodging pretty hard. You need help finding the info? You gave shit advice. Own it for once or look stupid, your choice

Does anyone here plug their headphones or speakers into their monitor?
It seems like a waste of money on the manufacturers side, when they could not include it, and lower the price of the monitor.
Maybe I’m just out of touch, and lots of people use that feature.

Are you talking about glue on video cards, like Intel does, or hot snot on motherboard connectors?

I see his problem with glue being used on graphics cards. It makes the cards harder to tear down, and increases the chance of breakage.

As for hot snot on motherboards, most connectors will stay seated without glue, and is unnecessary. I could see it being used on USB 3.1 headers due to their crappy design, and I could see how they get jostled loose during shipping.

You really stepped into it this time, didn't you? You can't even specify the parts in the HP Omens. If Best Buy doesn't list them, you're as helpless as a baby. I could make them up, and you wouldn't know the difference, LOL. You're so lost you're attempting to disparage them by proxy of the HP Pavilions which is as retarded as forwarding analysis of a Dell XPS laptop by citing a Dell Inspiron review.

Again, be quiet. You have no clue what you're talking about.

Alright bozo I'm going to restate this one more time and you are going to answer it or we are done her. If HP is willing to market a $1400 computer and slap it together with cheap parts and poor quality control, why do you think they wouldn't do the same thing with a $600 computer? Because they branded it differently is not an answer that cuts mustard here. Before you sputter more silly shit out, GN bought it specifically because it was being marketed to gamers.

I finally did get triggered enough to start looking up it's parts. I found the motherboard model and curiously can't find any reviews of it anywhere because it's probably some proprietary garbage. Since you're too embarrassed to ask I'll teach you how to search for these things. Take the model number off the Best Buy page. Go to HP's support site. Find the model number. Look down the specs sheet until you get to the part you want.

Now that you know feel free to give it a whirl.

I don't know why you would think that saying "You stepped into it" is going to fool anyone here. Your recommendation was shit even if we ignored my completely innocent and VALID opinion about off the shelf prebuilts. It's super telling that you have continued to not acknowledge that you told a guy asking for a console upgrade to buy a PC with a 1660 in it. For reference @Jack Reacheround the PS5 performs around a 3060, so MAYBE the $1000 Omen he linked with a 3060 Ti will show an appreciable difference. Honestly though if your goal is to upgrade significantly from consoles I would probably go into the 3080/4070 territory so that it is at least enough of a gain to be worth the investment over console pricing. I mean you don't want to drop 1k on a computer thats only a little bit better.

All you have done is your usually bluster hoping it fools everyone ITT into thinking you were right and didn't say something stupid. You might pull the wool over the eyes of the posters that aren't into this hobby, but you aren't fooling anyone that does actually build. I have to say sometimes the shit I see you say in here makes me wonder if you have ever put one together yourself.

I have to tell you, I’m not really interested in you guys having a dick measuring contest for who knows more about computer hardware.

I’ll figure it out when the time comes. I appreciate all of the advice and technical details. Thanks.

Think its a implemented feature designed for console users because of HDMI usage.

LOL, a wall-o-crying, and yet you can't produce the parts. Can't tell us anything about a motherboard because "it doesn't have reviews" to guide you. Because you don't actually understand anything about hardware or component construction. You need your hand held, and are only useful if you can regurgitate someone with actual knowledge.

Yet again. Be quiet. You don't know what the hell you're talking about.
I have to tell you, I’m not really interested in you guys having a dick measuring contest for who knows more about computer hardware.

Avoid advice from people who advise against prebuilts because they have "shitty parts" when those people don't even possess the capability to produce the parts in the prebuilts they're disparaging.

Isn't that the whole point though? Someone who buys a prebuild because they're still somehow intimidated of building in this day and age probably shouldn't be doing things like removing the heatsink from a GPU.
