Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

1. "Oh my god look at that performance"
2. "Oh my god look at that price"

Then 99% of us moved on.
The price is actually pretty good considering it launched at only $100 more than the 3090 despite being like 60% faster.

Titan X 2015 $1000
Titan Xp 2017 $1200
Titan RTX 2018 $2500
3090 2020 $1500
4090 2022 $1600

It's just all the other BS Nvidia has pulled lately that's soured people.

True, but I would raise the counterpoint that people are miffed by that because the xx90 cards, starting with the 3090, unlike the Titan cards, restrict the true highest level of performance to the $1500 price range. While the Titan cards were better than xx80 cards from their generations, it was a slim margin, only the VRAM advantages were substantial, so that the xx80 cards effectively offered the highest level of performance from a practical point of view.

That used to be obtainable for $500-$600. Now it's 3x that cost.

Holy shit, you’ve changed your av for the first time in like 15 years, maybe the first time ever.
Everyone has a Halloween av. Figured this one emphasized the Vampire.

Second time I've changed it. A lot of the original Sports Bar regulars got those custom 8-bit avatars, once. Technically, third, if you count the special Christmas Arlovski of my main av BWR made me with the Santa hat and snow. I wish he was still around to make me a Halloween av, or I wouldn't have changed it from my main, just added a Halloween theme like he did for Christmas.

Oh yeah, I remember you briefly donning the 8-bit Arlovski a few years back.

It does look like a good value when you put it like that, but that’s assuming that 1500 was a reasonable price for a 3090 in the first place. It really wasn’t though. It’s like twice the price of a 3080 for about 10% more performance

But Nvidia seems to have normalized these kinds of prices and they’ve proven people will pay it. I guess it’s how it’s going to be now.

I was actively looking for a 3080 until I landed a pair of 3090's at MSRP (hookup + 200 or so for delivery and lil on the side). Would I have bought a 3090 for that price if I could have scored a 3080 instead? Hell no. But that was all I could get. The struggle to get video cards were real. There was a line outside Microcenter every day for more than a year or two waiting for GPUs. Many of us bought out of desperation. At least I didn't completely overpay for them. People were paying more than double the MSRP at one point from what i recall.

Well on to rumor section there could be a big drop of RTX 40X0 cards coming for black Friday deal time at least RTX 4090 apparently. Both CEO's Pat and Jensen made trips to Taiwan sometime ago to get bulk of GPU's for their collective products for the big black Friday drop or just before. Point is expect to hear about dates for this to happen soon. It could also have something to do with AMD GPU announcements.

Time to wreck the scalpers

AMD just unloaded on NVIDIA. Team Green with retain the performance crown, but on value, this is a massacre.

RX 7900 XTX = $999
RX 7900 XT = $899

The 7900 XTX won't be too far off the 4090 in terms of performance. It actually has superior pixel throughput, equal VRAM, only ~6% inferior VRAM throughput, then trails furthest in texturing, processing power, and ray-tracing* at ~34% inferior. Weirdly, it also has very little L2 cache, but a greater amount of the slower L3 cache. It also has more advanced output with 2 x DisplayPort 2.1 instead of 3 x DisplayPort 1.4. All of that for $600 less.

It shits on the 4080 16GB, but will cost $200 less.

*Correction: It has 33% fewer ray-tracing cores, not an equal amount. My mistake.

That 7900XT is mine!

Man... this'll FORCE Nvidia to make their lineup cheaper

AMD prices their CPU/GPU according to their competitors performance and price point. If i heard correctly AMD are also withholding review samples for this GPU launch.

Yes, and they just shit on it.

We can wait until the benchmarks, but on spec, I'd suggest the XTX. For just $100 more it's the better value.
full
Main reason I was considering the XT was my Corsair SF750 PSU, the recommended PSU for that is a 700W one so I figured I would just drop the new card in and wouldn't have to worry about anything else.
