Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

Why do you have to break my heart like this???

Edit: Whoever the genius at Nvidia was to come out with two 4080s should get a shitty performance review. Talk about dumb and insulting to your customers. To be honest, I'm really not impressed with Nvidia for years now in terms of marketing and production. Seems they really don't care about the most loyal and passionate portion of their customer base.

/end rant before "it's capitalism, wake up you idiot"
It’s not really capitalism though. It’s because they have a near monopoly that they can get away with being shitty to customers. I mean our only alternative is AMD and it is often not a great alternative. You can’t deny that Nvidia does make a superior product. So here’s hoping that Intel and AMD can shake the market up in years to come.

They have a monopoly on the high end. No reason to buy Nvidia right now at 1080p and even 1440.

Well just waiting for a MSI Suprim RTX 4090 to become available in Australia to complete my build. Whether it is the air or liquid cooled will depend on what's available first.

Here is the build so far, I've been running an old graphics card as a placeholder in the meantime.
Intel i9 12900k
MSI MEG Z690 ACE
2x 32GB Dominator platinum DDR5
2x 2TB SSD FireCuda 520
8TB BarraCuda 3.5 inch HD
Cosair iCue H150i Elite Capellix Liquid cpu cooler
Cosair 1200w HX1200 High Performance PSU
3x Cosair iCue QL120 120mm RGB Fans
Cool Master Cosmos C700m Full ATX Case
Cosair Premium Individually Sleeved PSU Cable Kit Pro package
Windows 11

This system will be mainly used to edit 8K video footage. I also claim it back on tax as a business expense as I am a professional photographer and videographer so I didn't mind premium prices.

4090 benchmark test on an extreme 3 monitor setup.

Do you remember F355 Challenge? It was a Sega arcade racing game with three screens around the cockpit and each one was powered by a separate Dreamcast.

Didn't you just buy a $1300 AUD motherboard, one of the most expensive on the market, for a Zen 4 CPU?
I just bought that Meg x670e Ace for a build I am doing.

I bought the Asus Creator but the company I got the parts through couldn't get stock to fill the order. Had to go with the MSI MEG ACE that was about the same price ($1099 AUD). Wasn't too disappointed as I was mainly after the x2 Thunderbolt ports for fast downloading from my cameras. The MSI has 5x M.2 slots and x6 sata so I can easily expand the storage as time goes by without having to rely on external storage solutions, so that is a plus when dealing with very large chunks of 8k footage.

I guess some cripto nut to have that kind of money lol was able to chain 4 4090's together and within 48 mins crack Microsoft's latest password security. 8 of them even fast still lol.

"
Why it matters: Security researcher and password cracker Sam Croley posted benchmarks highlighting the RTX 4090's password-cracking muscle. Nvidia's newest flagship GPU shattered the RTX 3090's previous benchmark records and doubled performance across almost every algorithm tested. The cracked passwords adhered to security best practices and included random letter cases, symbols, and numbers.

According to Croley's tweet, the mammoth GPU was tested against Microsoft's well-known New Technology LAN Manager (NTLM) authentication protocol as well as the Bcrypt password-hacking function. All of the tests were conducted using Hashcat v6.2.6 in benchmark mode. Hashcat is a well-known and widely used password-cracking tool used by system administrators, cybersecurity professionals, and cybercriminals to test or guess user passwords."

Just the kinda news we all need lol.

"
Based on the benchmark findings, a fully outfitted password hashing rig with eight RTX 4090 GPUs would have the computing power to cycle through all 200 billion iterations of an eight-character password in 48 minutes. The sub-one-hour result is 2.5 times faster than the RTX 3090's previous record. Both benchmark measurements were conducted using only commercially available GPU hardware and related software.

The Hashcat software provides several attack types designed to facilitate password recovery assistance or, depending on the user, unauthorized access to another's accounts. These attack types include dictionary attacks, combinator attacks, mask attacks, rule-based attacks, and brute force attacks."

FFS, everybody saw this headline in their Google News tech feed. Every fucking one of us.

Not only does this not have anything to do with gaming, this is news to none of us. Stop spamming whatever Google & MSN push to the top of their News feed.

It has to do with the availability of said card as people are already reporting a lack of 4090's and it also shows how powerful the card is even though Nvidia takes tons of sh$t about the price. It's a pretty amazing card even though people will continue to sh%t on it while it continues to bend reality.

This is horrible news. I'm already so confused when it comes to all the varoius passowrds I have. Seems like they need to be longer and more complex. *yikes*

I have no idea how they could fix this every time it looks like we should be safe at least till quantum computers people could do this with a real high end desktop.

I almost bought an RTX 4090 on Amazon

It's just absolutely stupid of me to buy this card. First of all, I barely play any games. And when I do play, 90% of the time, I play a game that came out in 2004 at 1440 resolution on a videocard that is way too much for it already.

I would buy one and do nothing but play Quake II RTX on it.

In all honesty I will probably grab one once the prices come down. I don't know why but I suspect that the scalping won't last as long this time around. Or hell maybe I'm wrong.
But I mean it's literally twice as powerful as the 3090. We've never seen a jump like that before. Wondering if my case will fit the dimensions.

Having said that, the AIB's look really ugly this time around. My GigaByte is truly attractive.

No one has denied that it’s an amazing card. It just has some insane drawbacks. Drawbacks like not fitting in most cases, and being half of your power bill, on top of the asking price.

I don’t see a real issue here. It’s not the first gpu to crack passwords, just the fastest. Unless a site will let someone attempt your password 200 billion times, you should be safe
