Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

I've watched a few reviews and build videos of this case now and I'm fascinated. It's hard to believe it can fit a gaming rig but it does. I currently have a mid tower that sits beside my TV and I'd love to replace it with something like this.

What are your specs and is cooling an issue? Is it noisy?

It's shorter height wise but the footprint is huge.

Yep. which is why I tried to go a different route with this other case. Didn’t have enough time to think it through though and ended up with an even worse case. So I just went back to what I know.

It's not a bad case but I won't support Thermaltake after learning about the crap they pulled with Caselabs.

That's perfect for me. The mid tower I have now is 51cm in length and the Core V21 is 42cm so it would fit nicely. I just don't want something so cramped that I make a mess of it.

Is there any consensus on air pressure for air cooled builds?

If I understand correctly, for a water cooled build, you want to create negative pressure inside the case by setting up any fans as exhaust only.

But for an air cooled build, what's best? More intake fans on the front to create positive pressure inside the case and help reduce dust buildup, or more exhaust fans on the back and top of the case to create negative pressure and expel hot air more quickly?

Not a dedicated configuration video, but I think it pretty much covers what you want to avoid.

That was perfect. Thank you!

Interesting, the bit about having a top exhaust fan too close to the front of the case... it will pull incoming air straight out the top so it never circulates over the motherboard and CPU, leading to higher temps. So he suggests only putting top exhaust fans behind the CPU so they pull out dead air in the back of the case. Makes perfect sense.

This is caused by the low CFM rating of todays fans while also only having a intake at the front bottom and exhaust at the middle top.

I can see there's a bit of an art to this.

I'd do water but I'm afraid I would screw it up and kill my pc. lol

Is this a good deal and good specs? I don't know enough about the AMD vs Intel races, but it seems like getting a $1,500 card and a i9 10 series cpu makes it a reasonable price.

I'd want a somewhat future proof system that ships quick. Giving a system builder $3k and waiting a month is offensive to me.

My thought is that a 3090 will play AAA titles better in 5 years than a 3080.

Well that’s a pretty solid rig, can’t get much better than that, though I’m sure the consensus would be that if you’re willing to spend that kind of top dollar that you should opt for an AMD processor, namely a Ryzen 9 5950x as that’s the top cpu at the moment. I’d wait for @Madmick or @jefferz to weigh in.

The CPU still kicks ass for gaming and you could easily flip the 3090 for $2000 if you wanted.

Edit: This one (5600X and 3070) for $1600 isn't too shabby either: https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gaming-Instant-Ship-GM-99561

lolz @ wanting future proof and getting an intel cpu. and yes, obviously the more powerful gpu will be better in 5 years than a less powerful gpu. but that's not exactly the point...

I didn't go through and check out individual prices. This is just a couple of things from a quick look.
That cpu cooler is woefully inadequate for that cpu. An i9 needs either a 280mm or 360mm cooler. At that price point, it should have 32gb of ram.

Oof disappointing. Yeah AMD seems to have the advantage over flagship Intel processors. Unfortunately they don't have stock on any AMD Cpus with 3090 GPU packages.

The article on Toms Hardware mentions the difference in FPS becomes negligible at higher resolutions. I.e. over 1080p the fps is carried by the GPU.

I play on a 65" 4k tv so maybe I wouldn't be losing much fps if I went with intel 9-10850

You won't lose anything at 4K.

You can maintain 5.0 ghz on an i9 with a Noctua instead.
