What's your rams speed now? All GDR4 defaults to the same speed, 2133 I think? Something like that. It's worth researching on your own, but I remember seeing tests done that showed if you have a high end system, it's worth getting ram speeds from 3200-3800. If your ram is already capable of that, then probably not worth changing. Remember though, all ram defaults to that 2133 speed, and you have to go in and change it in your mobo bios after installing.

I'm on a 2080 Super, and while the 3080 is clearly a meaningful improvement I wouldn't mind holding out for an extra 10-20 percent or so before paying 700-800 again.
Might not be worth it for you. I have a 1080 ti and I'm thinking about it, but I'm a sucker for new tech.

Do you think this gen of CPU's have made a similar leap in performance?

I haven't paid much attention to new hardware in the last few years so I'm trying to familiarize myself but with xmas and covid, prices and availability are all out of whack.
AMD's have made a huge jump. I guess we will see if Intel does to. Intel hasn't made a big jump in ages. Maybe not since the 2500k era.

Yeah 2133 is the default.

Mine is 2400mhz at CL14 on the XMP profile.

Yeah so I've learned. I'm now looking at Ryzen for my next CPU potentially.

In the summer I tried to get the PS3 emulator running but gave up because it kept crashing and the settings were too daunting. Well when it became clear that I might not get a PS5 until next year, I decided to read up on the RPCS3 and get Demon Souls going on my PC. It took a week of fiddling to finally get it running at 1080p60 but I learned firsthand why more cores and threads are so useful. RPCS3 thrives on 8 cores or more but my current i5 7600k only has 4C/4T (no hyperthreading) so I get the occasional stutter and frame drop but at least it's playable.

I just need a couple more excuses now to justify upgrading my CPU and going through the pain of installing a new motherboard, RAM and whatever other parts end up breaking in the process. I haven't replaced a mobo in at least a decade and from memory it sucks.

It does suck. I’ve always just done a bee build when it’s time to replace the mobo. There’s not going to be a better time for a cpu upgrade, except unfortunately good luck getting your hands on one. The scalpers are serious this year

What's a bee build? Never heard of that one.

It seems like whenever I want to buy anything PC related, there are shortages. When I bought my current machine a few years ago, crypto miners had ravaged the GPU market and now it's Covid. Fucking scalpers.

My 2080 super was getting to 85c in RDR2 shit was crazy. I undervolted it with afterburner and now I’m at 75c top. So weird. And performance seems to be the same. Don’t get why shit got so hot with out even overClocking it. In warzone it got to 75c max. I know RDR2 is much more demanding but damn.

I meant to type "new", probably typod on my phone and autocorrected to bee lol

I remember reading something about this a while ago.

It was something about yields during production, in that they'll up the voltage to ensure all chips are able to run at their rated frequency. You'll see a lot of posts on reddit where people undervolt their GPUs like you and get much better temps and minimal to no perceived performance loss. Some won't be as lucky and performance can be worse.

A chair built for manlets LOL yes I fit just under the recommended limit.

i can't believe i just watched this. lolz @ it ending up promoting a different company, anyway.

and lolz @ 6'2" being a manlet. but yeah, it seemed like their specs were off. it seemed more like it was made for 5'-5'6"

I bought a 3080 and I-9 for 1600....lol thought I was buying a 3090 for that price.

They said the seat was best used by someone shorter then 6 feet the guy testing the seat was 5'6" inches tall hardly a giant yet the seat looked nearly perfect for his size I come in just under 6 feet and I would be uncomfortable on that chair based on the height of the reviewer in the video. I thought the price was reasonable for a razor product at 500 dollars. Many decent gaming chairs start at 350 dollars to well over 1000 dollars.
