Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

Jesus That 3090 is like a damn boat

<{Joewithit}>

This guy doesn’t fuck around. He’s going to find out what’s true and what’s not concerning Nvidia’s claims about the 3000 series.

Yeah I really like his channel. he pulls no punches. I just watched a video yesterday where he trashed Thermaltake for not taking feedback that would improve their designs. On e virtual conference call he called them out on their incorrect use of math to show % improvements. It was both awkward and hilarious.

AMD already took shots at Nvidia for their use of a 12 pin connector with that proprietary looking dongle. They are reminding people that their new cards will stick with 8 pin connectors and you will not need to worry about the custom 12 pin setup jumper.

Embargo's have lifted.
Gamersnexus posted the overclocked power draw at 373 watts on FurMark.

Well Jays2Cents is completely blown away. Because as he points out the 3080 card is nearly 90 percent faster then the 2080 card "At 800 dollars" and 35 percent faster then the 2080 ti at "1200 dollars". He said the real point of this is that we have never seen this level of generational performance jump ever from Nvidia. He also makes a strong case from opinions online that the 3080 maybe a better choice to upgrade to vs 3070 at least what I get from it. The 3080 seems to check all the boxes performance wise even with the 3090 hanging out there at top end.

What i saw was a baseline 20%'sh frames gain over the 2080ti. Biggest improvement is increasing resolution while still gaining 5% more frames. CSGO benchmark Linus did was interesting. Was a 1% increase over the 2080ti.

Basically what im getting is that these new cards are ideal for increasing resolution that must be paired with one of Intels 5ghz+ CPU's.

So basically the 3070 will be slightly BetteR than a 2080ti and cost 800 dollars less. Man I’d be so pissed if I wasted 1200 dollars on that card.

If you're going to get mad about that, you're in the wrong hobby.

Sounds like you wasted 1200 dollars . There are many people online with 2080tiA who are salty so I guess they are all in the wrong hobby too?

I'm still rocking a 1070ti. It does everything I want it too so there hasn't been a reason for me to upgrade.

If you're mad about spending money on computer parts only to have something better come along later, you're either new to the hobby or you don't understand how this works.
You may not remember it, but there was a time when this would happen yearly. Your year old parts would be worthless.
Plus the 2080ti has been out for 2 years now, people that bought them have gotten there money's worth.

Every year something better gets released. But that something better usually cost the same or more. The 3070 is something better for 800 dollars less. When has that every happened with gpus in recent years?

Y’all must be young. A $600 video card in 98 was damn near obsolete 2-3 years later. Whereas the 1080 (which came out 4 years ago) is still a good card even at 4K ultra settings.

That’s an exception because they went full potato on pricing. Previous Ti models were only $650 to $700.

Ah, the golden years, where in the span of 12 years we went from potato graphics for Wolfenstein 3D to Far Cry/Doom 3/Halflife 2

Or you could save $300-$500 on the CPU + Cooler + Motherboard to instead devote to one of the highly expensive monitors that can display this level of performance by getting a 3700X or 3900X.
Techpowerup: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 with AMD Ryzen 3900XT vs. Intel Core i9-10900K
FYI, the 3900XT was only 0.4% superior to the 3900X and identical to the 3700X in the 4K game test suite Techpowerup ran a few months ago.

God I love how accessible Techpowerup makes their review metrics and roundups. Below is their general review:
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition Review - Must-Have for 4K Gamers

Also, because it obviously needs to be posted:

I'm sure Hardware Unboxed has another 20+ games coming in a video down the pipe because nobody does more actual game benchmarks reliably (they have 14 so far):

Otherwise, I await Anandtech's print coverage.

Looks like 144 at 1440p with max settings still isn't quite guaranteed. Hopefully next year.
