Gamestop Sucks.

New is supposed to mean wrapped in plastic so no one touched it and put their cooties on it. If someone picked their nose, then touched the opened game disc, it's not new. If I wanted cooties, I'd buy used.

Humans handling the discs at the factory should wear clean gloves.

I haven't been to Gamestop in years...last time I was there I was the only customer in the store and 3 different employees were following me around and basically harassing me as I was just trying to peruse the games. They were nonstop with trying to recommend Call of Duty because I said I like Halo...drove me fucking crazy. They also kept on putting different advertising flyers in my hand...I finally just threw it all on the floor and walked out. That's NOT how you get someone to feel comfortable in your store.

I also don't like buying a new game, and then someone pulls out a disk from a drawer and puts it in a box.

Side note : Buying games on Xbox Live (or Steam / PSN) is a much better experience because they have the trailer, screenshots, and reviews right there to look at before you purchase.

So I just bought Uncharted: The Lost Legacy from Gamestop for $10. It's supposed to be new, but they sold it to me without the plastic wrapper and there was a stupid price sticker on the case. How can they still claim it's new? Guess I can't complain too much because it's $10, but they do this for brand new releases also. Anyone got any Gamestop gripes they'd like to share?
I bought God Of War brand new. I went to return it the next day and they told me the signature on the receipt wasn't from anyone who worked there so they wouldn't let me return it.

WTF? How does that make any sense? The receipt has the address of the store, doesn't it? There should be an employee's name printed on it as well. Also, there has to be cameras in the store. They can check the footage to see you bought the game on the day and time that's stated on the receipt.

Oh...

...My...

God...

Why would you return God of War?

Since I’m still on Team Physical, GameStop is still ok in my book. Able to get physical copies at decent prices if they are older and used. 2-4-1 o better sometimes too.

All in how you use them, imo.

New should also include the case not being tampered with. Otherwise, you could just sell the game in a ziplock bag and say it's "new."

i'd love to hear if/how you guys managed to buy cars.

'BUT THE ODOMETER WASN'T 000000.0!' 'THERE WAS A FINGERPRINT ON THE HOOD!' 'SOMEONE PREVIOUSLY SAT IN IT?!'

you act as if the shrink wrap is the product.

Literally the same thing happened to me. I bought Ace Combat 7 and Kingdom Come Deliverance Royal Edition. Ace Combat wasn't sealed and I asked for a sealed copy but they said it was the last copy. So then why not use an empty jewel case with the art or a cardboard cutout or something? Then I remembered why I don't shop at EBGames any more.

To compare buying cars to buying video games shows how stupid you are.

Again, if Gamestop sells me a new game that has a plastic wrap on it and I take it off right after I buy it and ask for a refund immediately, they won't take it because it's not "new" anymore. But they have no problem selling it as new without the plastic wrap. You don't see the contradiction?

The same way a dealership can sell a Demo as a brand new car.

The disc is still mint. Who cares man at the end of the day you still got a brand new disc. The case just isn't vacuum sealed. It's annoying but expecting a discount is funny.

says the one that willingly bought a new game and complained on sherdog that he paid for a new game and got a new game?

They're just lazy. The new discs are in the drawer, and they plop them into cases. I wouldn't worry about it. Shit, enjoy the experience, because these stores are gonna be dead in like 3 years. They're probably making more money off of the collectible trinkets they sell.

These gaming stores are pretty much fucked. Next gen will kill them. Digital is the future. They're all gonna get Blockbuster'd.

I think that as long as there are bandwidth caps, the demand for physical games (discs) will always be there. That's why Google Stadia will go the way of OnLive. The tech is there, but the bandwidth caps are the roadblock.

When I lived in Japan, you could get unlimited fiber-optic for $15 a month.

A rising tide lifts all boats. The Japanese believe that.

Oh, and all Gamestops are registered pawn shops too.

Fuck GameStop. They've been ripping people off for years. Good riddance.

My favorite memory of that place was when I went into to trade my Wii with a handful of games including newer ones like Skyward Sword not long after it came out, tons of Wii shop games on it and they made me some atrocious offer. Before I could even respond a guy in line behind me said "'l'll double it and I have cash." Needless to say I took the cash. The guy at the register was like, "that's not cool dude." But it was totally fucking cool because I got a decent amount of money and the guy behind me with his kid got a console with a ton of games for a good price

The thing is that even with data caps being very realistic for people, games are just becoming too big to really have a sustainable model for those folks. Sure, you get to install the base game off of a disc, but that immediately comes with big day one patches at best, and if you buy it later, you could be in for files as big as the game itself. That is going to inevitably turn folks off with shitty internet, and the industry will probably just cut their losses. They'll base their model off of the majority.

I think Stadia is failing simply because it doesn't offer anything unique, not because of internet issues. It's essentially just another game service app you can get on any console out there. You'd have to be a real die hard Google fanboy to support it, over just getting Steam on PC, or a PS4/Xbone with the gaming services they offer. I have no idea what Google was thinking with that. They seem to be incredibly ignorant about the gaming industry, and will probably suffer some big losses because of it.

I'm buying not only the disc, but the case and manual that comes with it. If you're gonna be charging me full price, everything about the product better be in mint new condition.

and yet, your complaint isn't the condition, but that you didn't get shrink wrap.

If you are so butthurt about it then why did you accept the purchase? Go buy the product somewhere else and tell the clerk you lost a sale.

When I purchased Ace Combat 7 the disc was fine and ebgames had it at the lowest price of all competitors in my area. It sucks it's not sealed but I saved a bunch of money off the regular price, so it is not a deal breaker. Too bad you can't see it the same way.
