So I just bought Uncharted: The Lost Legacy from Gamestop for $10. It's supposed to be new, but they sold it to me without the plastic wrapper and there was a stupid price sticker on the case. How can they still claim it's new? Guess I can't complain too much because it's $10, but they do this for brand new releases also. Anyone got any Gamestop gripes they'd like to share?

The last copy of a game is always opened with the disk and inserts in a drawer for some reason. If you heat up the sticker it should peel off easily, but it is annoying that they do this.

I always want to be the first person to open something if I buy it new so I've declined to buy shit that was last copy.

People still buy from stores?

They're just lazy. The new discs are in the drawer, and they plop them into cases. I wouldn't worry about it. Shit, enjoy the experience, because these stores are gonna be dead in like 3 years. They're probably making more money off of the collectible trinkets they sell.

These gaming stores are pretty much fucked. Next gen will kill them. Digital is the future. They're all gonna get Blockbuster'd.

Sucks that these stores will probably end up dying. I like buying from stores and I like owning physical copies of games

I bought either Killzone trilogy or Mass Effect trilogy and seemed fishy since no plastic wrap and supposedly new.

It's amazing at how much that plastic wrap can play with your mind. I remember way back, when they(EB up here) would even offer to wrap it in plastic wrap, if you bought a new game that wasn't on the shelves. There's just something about having it wrapped, that makes it feel truly new.

Meanwhile, they could take a mint condition used game, throw it in some wrap, sell it as new, and nobody would ask any questions. It's funny how something so meaningless can impact how we think.

Maybe it is just dumb psychological shit that we do to ourselves, but I know that if I were buy a new game that had plastic wrap on it, took off the wrap in front of the cashier, and asked for a refund they'd no longer consider it new. So why is it new when we buy it, but not when we return it?

...by definition?

Gamestop sells games at full price even though they take the plastic wrap off and the disc out. They even put price stickers directly on the case itself. How can they justify selling it as a new game?

holy derp.

Again, if Gamestop sells me a new game that has a plastic wrap on it and I take it off right after I buy it and ask for a refund immediately, they won't take it because it's not "new" anymore. But they have no problem selling it as new without the plastic wrap. You don't see the contradiction?

you asked how they can justify selling a new game as new.

and when you buy it, it's no longer theirs and is yours. this really shouldn't be a difficult concept. as for the other part, i'm not even sure that's real as it seems to just be your speculation (1. that they'd refuse to refund it and 2. that the reason for refunding would be that it's not "new" - and not any other reason, including many valid ones. you're generally not entitled to a refund 'just because')

you seem to (falsely) believe that an item is used merely if a box is opened/etc. this generally is not true, especially in case of theft prevention - ie: having an empty display box with the disc behind the counter. still being wrapped merely helps a customer prove that the item is unused - however, the timestamp on the receipt (and fact that it never left the store/etc) would also do so.

Have you bought anything at Gamestop before? If you look at the receipt, it says the product has to be unopened. So I'm not speculating.

you're not talking about the receipt, your scenario is entirely speculation.

Oh my god, did you really think I originally meant trying to return the game without the receipt? <{hfved}>

wtf? how can you not follow this?

you weren't talking about THE receipt =/= hurr durr, you're talking about getting refunds with no receipt!

You must be a special kind of retard to not be able to figure out we working under the assumption that I had the receipt. Otherwise, a refund wouldn't be an option to begin with.

ok, since this was FUBAR from the beginning:

1. if you don't believe it was new, you shouldn't have bought it, to begin with. caveat emptor.
2. putting a price tag on something doesn't magically make it "used."
3. removing shrink wrap doesn't magically make it "used."
4. USING the item makes it used and no longer new. additionally, a transfer of ownership can do so, too, sometimes (ie: secondhand)
5. assuming the disc is flawless (ie: no scratches/marking), do you have any reason to actually believe it was used and not new?

i presume you've seen this form of theft prevention from other businesses.

HOLY MOTHER OF CRAP.

try actually reading the posts i made. you clearly have no freakin' idea what they said. not once did i say that you didn't have a receipt. not once did i imply such, either.

teal is false and pink is pulled from rectum (it's a speculative assumption on your part). their receipt does not say this. their website does not say this. YOU said it.
