Gaethje has CTE

I think Gaethje is past the point of gone. He’s taken a ton of damage. But he seems content on cementing his legacy in this sport and being a great. I guess that’s the price he’s willing to pay to achieve his goals. That being said, not everybody has CTE. CTE forms through repeated head trauma over the course of time. People need to stop screaming CTE at Joe Rogan’s hyperbole or Dana’s White’s temper tantrums. That’s just them being assholes.

Hockey is still dangerous as fuck, lots of kids getting concussions at bantam and midget age. I know a couple juniors who missed most of last season due to concussion issues as well.
Yep. I was lucky to be taller, and bigger than most of my peers. So I pretty much never took a hit with my head in a compromised position. But I still had some big impacts. Especially where I was known for my open ice hits. Had plenty of collisions where I came out the clear victor of the collision, but I still went right to the bench reeling from how bad the impact shook me up. Basically a car crash you're going through.

The weird eyes are from some vision problems that he had.

all MMA fighters have some degree of CTE

playing soccer and doing headers gives you CTE, bro

let them bang, let them bleed, i wanna see some deaths in the cage already. no more pussy shit

lol yeah, being tall would be a huge benefit when it comes to avoiding hits to the head. playing hockey myself though I learned that you can get rocked pretty fucking bad just with a classic ass to chest hit (PK Subban style)
And yeah all those collisions or hits that you yourself laid on somebody, you're still taking a fucking collision you are just not getting it as bad lol, I'm happy I never thought about this stuff when I was playing

Haters will never admit this is the epitome of good looks

Yep. I left some kids devastated with some big opens ice hits. And I rarely got out of them unscathed. I didn't throw them too often, but every once in a while if they were getting chippy with us with the sticks i'd use someone as example to remind them to keep it clean. I never left my feet, never got my elbows or stick up for them where I was aware as a kid how much bigger I was and that I didn't need to as it likely will just injure someone so kept it clean. But I didn't hold back, would plant my feet in the stride to maintain my course so it wasn't a charge hit and lean my whole torso into the shoulder. I gotta imagine I handed out some concussions that I definitely feel bad about today.

He can still fight, that's all I care about.

I think it's more of a sleep deprivation thing. He doesn't have typical slurred CTE type speech.

Wut
I think there is a certain look that people with physical or emotional trauma have. Call it the "thousand yard stare" or whatever you want, but I think it's a real thing.

Not sure if Gaethje has it, though. But Diego definitely does.

I guess you are not a real Sherdogger after all! Reeling around like a pole dancer after stuff we wouldn't even flinch at.

I played football and lacrosse in an era when our coaches told us to hit with our heads. Basically forehead area aiming for the numbers to the chin, often head to head, frequently head on. We got helmet stickers if we had knockout/“hospital shot” hits. Our coaches wanted us to play violent and hurt people.

None of the “see what you hit” stuff.

concussion protocol:

trainer: “How many fingers?”
(Holds 3 fingers)

Me: 2

Trainer: “Close enough, you’re good to go.”

Definitely saw flashes several times. Never went out or got spaghetti legs or balance issues, but still...

and I had several other concussions: out cold completely twice- Once from snowboard crash, once fell backwards off a barstool wasted (and woke up in bed with a fat chick who was a known slut on the cruise crew).

I have headaches which is annoying. Had issues with migraines for a while but doing better now (on meds).

and I don’t feel any CTE type symptoms, so I can only imagine what it is like for someone who was punched in the face thousands of times.
