FX's FARGO Discussion Thread

And who else here wouldn't be surprised if Vargas and his 2 guys end up being con men and alone? They don't seem like they have any further connections and I think them being mysterious could be a distraction from the fact that they are alone. A lot easier to take out 3 guys and not have to worry about reinforcements, but they are so intimidating and manipulative that no one realizes this.

The Asian guy played the perfect lawyer role, they are really good at faking the books and they travel around in that truck as if it's a headquarters no one knows about.

What if the real people stussy borrowed the money from shows up? In the tale of little red riding hood, she shows up to her grandma's to find a wolf ate her grandma and is now dressed as her.

I'm probably reaching.

That's actually a very plausible theory now that I think about it. It sort of plays in to the whole 'perception of reality becoming reality' theme for this season too. We shall see what happens.

I guess spoilers are cool, so I won't bother tagging mine.

Gonna miss Ray. I figured he was going to wind up the William H Macy of the series, and have his bumbling schemes catch up to him at the end. I had my money on his brother getting offed, if anything. With him out of the picture, I really don't know where the series is headed, now that the main conflict is essentially over.

Kudos to McGregor though. I sometimes forgot that he was also playing Ray. Great performance. I think this series is going to be a top contender for the Emmy's in the acting category. Everyone is killing it. Not a weak performance in the bunch, and they all stand out in their own way. One of best ensembles in a series, Amazing stuff.

Finally got around to it. Great episode.

Ray's death was out of nowhere, and disgustingly real. Brutal sequence.

It's too bad, as he really did love his lady, & unlike his brother, actually had the balls to fight back against those guys.

One silver lining... even though he got himself killed out of ego and by acting very stupid - he should have, of course, just taken the stamp - he did, poetically, save his girl's life in that final act of dying. Even though no one will ever know. For if not for his death at that moment, then she would have been garroted in the bathroom.

Holy fuck!

Of all the Season 1 characters I didn't expect him to show up!

I've been thinking something along these lines too. Also using fear to get people to go along with things they otherwise would not (like the intro to this season with the interrogation)

I don't mind Ray's death, but I didn't like the way it happened. He should've just taken the stamp. The glass breaking and sticking in his neck like that, plus him being dumb enough to pull it out, and then Emmit just watching. I just didn't like that scene at all really.

If someone gets a large shard of glass in their jugular, instinct is to take it out, you aren't going to be thinking rationally in that situation.
Also Emmet not doing anything could be chalked up to a number of things (or a combination of them). The first being shock. Next would be worrying about fingerprints and such, and getting blamed for murder if he called for help. Also he has to worry about Varga and what would happen if he dragged the police into this and put more eyes on him. He also was probably thinking of how the Ray problem was now gone and that problem made the Varga mess even worse. There must have been a million things scrambling through his mind.

True.

Who? I haven't seen season 1 since it aired on FX so I must have missed it.

He was sitting in the bus next to Nikki on their way to the State Penitentiary.
Who was he in the first season? It felt like I was supposed to know who he was, but I had no memory of him.

Well, considering the episode already aired, I won't put it in spoilers.

It was Mr. Wrench. Remember the pair of hitmen that the Fargo Mob sent to investigate the death of Sam Hess?

The guy with the beard was Mr. Numbers and the deaf one with the sideburns was Mr. Wrench.

They almost managed to kill Malvo, but Mr. Numbers got killed and Mr. Wrench got arrested. Last we saw him, it was implied he was going to escape custody. It seems he got caught again just in time to end up next to Nikki on the bus.

The deaf guy! Thanks for the reminder!

Thank you for the answer!

Anyone else get the suspicion that Mary McDonnell's character may be aligned with Varga somehow? She's too well known an actress to just come in for some short scenes. Also her talking on the phone when Emmit went to go talk to officer Lopez could have been her tipping Varga off to what was happening with the officer, Sy, and Emmit's mental state (which is a problem).

The new chief is so dense and unimaginative. Aargh, it's so frustrating to watch. I love it. Hope there's some sort of scene in the end where he gets humiliated or just apologize to Gloria.

Awesome to see Mr. Wrench's surprise appearance. I would love to see an angle where he protects Nikki from Varga's goons.

I like this new evil DJ Qualls.

Good to see Winnie Lopez isn't letting this go. She'll probably find out that Emmit's lying about the time he got to the restaurant. Winnie's character could have been assimilated to Gloria to strengthen her Gloria's character more. But I'm fine with this set-up also.
